Golden Globes Great Gowns
Awards season started properly last night with the Golden Globes, which saw all the beautiful people out in force on the red carpet. The Golden Globes is always a seriously glamorous night, second only to the Oscars in terms of importance and star power, so, as to be expected, there were some seriously glamorous looks to be seen on the red carpet, with some colour and texture trends pointing the way to what we may see at the Oscars and Bafta’s. It has to be said, there were some underwhelming looks. I hated the 1970s bridesmaid dress worn by the usually wonderful Kiera Knightley (I’m blaming pregnancy hormones for that…

Prabal Gurung Spring Collection – Bird of Paradise
Prabal Gurung is one of the New York based designers that I always look forward to seeing at New York Fashion week. His ultra feminine designs are always a feast for the eyes, and I found much to savour from his new collection, not least the sumptuous use of colour (particularly red and greys) and frill details. There were many style motifs running through the collection. Floaty cape effects were one which I thought were very successful, in the sheerest of chiffon fabrics, these additions to tops and dresses looked great and totally wearable. I especially loved this effect when added to a swirl effect shift dress. The use of…

SAG Awards – All the trends
Last night saw the next event on the glittery awards cavalcade. The Screen Actors Guild awards are less formal than the Globes or the Oscars so many stars opt for a slightly less showy look. This year there were some truly stunning looks on show, and some key trends, including 70s glamour, black is back and ponytails. There were also splashes of block colour, with red, blue and green all looking great on the Red Carpet. Trends 70s chic Angela Jolie wore one of the key trends on the night – 70s disco. She wore a stunning fluid black gown from Jenny Packham. The dress, with low back and draped…

The Golden Globes – The Best Looks.
Last night saw the REAL start of the Awards season, with the Golden Globe Awards. This saw a fabulous array of red carpet dresses from a host of designers and in a sea of colours. Here are my favourite looks from the night. There were examples of Old School Hollywood glamour on the red carpet. Angelina Jolie channelled a Marilyn Monroe style in Atelier Versace, a nude dress with red accents that just draped every curve. I loved how she kept her hair simple, letting the dress speak for itself. Sofia Vergara showed why she is a modern-day Sophia Loren in a form-fitting Vera Wang fishtail style dress. Some said…

Christina Hendricks brings more good news for Curvy girls.
As regular readers of Fashion-Mommy know, I just adore Christina Hendricks. To me, she is just the most beautiful women on TV, with a curvy hourglass figure to die for. But Christina doesn’t always get it right in the fashion stakes. On Mad Men, Janie Bryant styles her character Joan as a regular bombshell, in curve enhancing suits and dresses, but in real life, the thoroughly modern Christina struggles to dress for Hollywood occasions due to designers just not catering for her sort of figure. Recently, Christina was photographed on a beach in a black one-piece swimsuit, which sent the press and blogosphere into heated debates about her body –…
