Why Flexible working hours make perfect sense
My little boy celebrates his 6th birthday today, and so it is the perfect time to reflect on how much my life has changed in the days since he was born. At that time, I was an acting head teacher of a Primary School, working full time, and also bringing a lot of work home each evening. When Joe came along I wanted to reduce my hours to part time so I could enjoy being a mommy to this precious little bundle, a request that became even more important when I was diagnosed with post-natal depression. Unfortunately I did not meet the response I was expecting, and the reduced working…

Fun on the School Run with Regatta
Walk to school month continues, and I can happily say that we are still enjoying all the new adventures we are finding to have along the way. For many children though, a walk to school is something that they never get chance to enjoy. Outdoor specialists Regatta have recently published the results of a survey they carried out looking at the school run. The results made interesting reading. Here are a few of the key results:- Despite almost half (47%) of British primary school children living within just one mile of the school gates, over a million1 have never walked to school. Walking to school has declined 62%2 over the…

Take a walk to school this month
Up until quite recently, my morning mommy routine was a bit of a nightmare, one that left me feeling stressed out before the day had chance to begin. It began with the alarm going off, and me banging the button in order to snooze for five (or ten) minutes. Then there would be the frantic rush around the house, looking for uniforms, doing breakfast and trying to get Joe’s hair into an acceptable state, all before leaving for school. We live almost 2 miles from our school, so the car is a must, but as I don’t drive my father-in-law comes to take us in the mornings. We always struggled…

Birds Eye – Getting into the mealtime routine
The school holidays are an amazing , fun time, but they are also the time when all routines seem to fly out of the window. Children get up later, go to bed later, and seem to eat at different times, snacking in between meals on ice creams, crisps, biscuits and all manner of things. Our school holiday was full of chances to eat out, including a couple of weeks away on holiday. There were also picnics in the park to make the most of the lovely weather and late night snacks after full days out. Basically, the old mealtime routine was nowhere to be seen. But now school is back,…

Dreaming of London Living
Last week, the hubby and I spent a couple of really lovely days in London. We ate out, enjoyed a fabulous gig, and did a little bit of shopping, and just basically enjoyed all our capital city has to offer. I must admit it got me feeling a little wistful, because, before Joe was born, we had seriously considered moving to the capital, in fact, we had gone as far as applying for jobs, and I had lined up two jobs. Then, on the day that an interview for my dream job had dropped onto the mat, I found out that I was going to have a baby, and all…
