Expedia World on a Plate
I was recently asked if I would be interested in taking part in a cookery challenge with Expedia. Called ‘World on a plate’, the project involved creating culinary delights based around the cuisine of a given European location. I was given Malta – a place that I have visited in the past and totally fell in love with. Malta is a small Mediterranean island with a interesting cuisine that seems to take it’s influences from both nearby Italy, with oily seafood and salads, and also Middle Eastern dishes, including Pastizzi Tal Pizelli, which is a sort of mushy peas pasty, and also comes in a variety filled with Ricotta cheese.…

Reviewed – Handmade Burger Co. at Grand Central Birmingham
The arrival of Grand Central Birmingham has meant the opening of lots of new eateries, selling a wide variety of different cuisines. On Sunday I was invited to check out on of those restaurants, the Handmade Burger Co, which offers one of the biggest selections of burgers I have ever seen. So, after Joe had made his football debut for Wyrley Rangers, and we were all suitably starving after a morning on the footie touchline, we made our way to my new favourite shopping centre to try out the handmade Burgers of the Handmade Burger Co. The restaurant is another that has that slightly industrial feel to it, with a…

A guide to European Food Festivals
Following on from my post last week looking at my favourite food places in Dubai (you can check out that post here) I have been sent a great infographic produced by Money transfer experts CurrencyFair which is looking at the food of Europe in relation to national dishes, street food and their pick of the continent’s top restaurants. The infographic has taken every European country, from Albania to the United Kingdom, and then gives information that relates to food. This includes what you can expect to pay, per head, in restaurants, and what you can expect to pay in the chosen, highlighted restaurant (for the UK the suggestion is the…

Foodie Review – Beefeater Longford House
It is a little embarrassing to say that there is a Beefeater restaurant, situated in a lovely 18th Century Public House, that is just a 10 minute drive from my house, and yet I had never tried it. But until yesterday, this was a true fact. The Longford House is a fabulous old building which has recently had extensive renovations to make it a bright and airy modern restaurant, and on Sunday we went along to sample some of the delights of the current menu. The Beefeater menu is extensive, with a good mixture of steaks, pasta, salads and grills. On Sunday, it also has the option of Roasts on…

Mamma’s Classics at Frankie and Benny’s, Blackpool
When it comes to a great meal that is suitable when the kids are present, Frankie and Benny’s is always a good choice. The menu is wide ranging enough to suit all tastes, and children are catered for and made very welcome. On Saturday we were in Blackpool and went along to the Blackpool branch of the restaurant, which is situated just a short walk from the town centre on Festival Park. There we were well looked after by the manager Dan, and our waiter Lee, and enjoyed savouring some of the delights from the current menu. When we entered the Blackpool branch, we were impressed with how each table…
