Reviewed: The Hampton Cornflower Blue Grab Bag from Yoshi Bags

Yoshi Lichfield should really be called the home of the bag. Specialising in beautiful leather bags, Yoshi is home to the classic, the elegant and the quirky. Whether you are looking for a smart work bag, a tote perfect for shopping, a shoulder bag that could also double as a clutch for a night out, or even a quirky custard cream bag that would even appeal to those with style taste slightly off the radar, Yoshi has designs for all – and every one is a beauty.

Recently, Yoshi has unveiled a glorious new colour in it’s leather collections, a stunning shade of cornflower blue. This blue leather has been used to create the Hampton collection, which incorporates a range of bags and purses. I have been using the ‘grab bag’ which is described as: “Perfect for all occasions and outfits both day and night”
and have to agree that this is a bag that is smart enough for formal or even occasions, but looks totally great with jeans and more casual wear too,

The grab bag is great, big enough to carry all your essentials – purse, keys, phone, lippie notebook, pen – all will fit easily into the middle compartment which has a zip top for security. It then has two further side compartments which close with magnetic clasps that are perfect for things like Oyster cards, train tickets or bus passes, the sort of things that you may want to grab in a hurry. Inside the middle section there are even more pockets, big enough for your mobile phone, and another zip pocket too. The whole bag is lined with a crisp blue striped fabric which gives it a slightly nautical feel, and contrasts beautifully with the cornflower blue leather of the bag.

The dimensions of the bag are Height 23 cm, Width 33 cm and Depth 10 cm, and as I show above, it can work with a range of colours and outfit styles. The bag comes in one of the Yoshi dust bags which make it a perfect gift idea for a birthday or Christmas, and, as this is such a classic style, you know it is a gift that will be used forever more.

Treat Yourself To A New Handbag This Autumn

If there is one fashion item that I cannot resist, it is the lure of a new handbag. When it comes to clothes and shoes I can hold myself back, but a handbag…

I think it’s something to do with it being a treat item that you can use, whenever. It doesn’t matter if you lose or gain weight, your bag is totally forgiving. You can choose a designer label and it should last you for years, but the High Street often has the most covetable bags each season. You can choose a different design to match every outfit, or can opt for a totally classic investment piece that will work whatever you are wearing. Whether it be the lure of leather or suede, or if you are a magpie drawn to sparkling pieces, there is a handbag out there waiting for you.

Glamour and heritage from Scotsburn Croft

I sometimes respond to Tweets looking for bloggers to review items. It’s a great way to get in touch and to discover a new brand that may not have been on your horizon before. I recently tweeted a company called Scotsburn Croft, and I can honestly say I have fallen in love with the craftmanship and heritage of their work. This is one company you must check out if you love your accessories to have class.

Scotsburn Croft was founded in the Scottish Highlands by the seriously talented Clare Ferguson. She took her inspiration from growing up in the Highlands of Scotland, an area full of beautiful landscapes, real family and community values and people not “feert of a bit of hard graft”. She used the long ago tradition of crafts people who worked in small ‘crofts’ to create a range of fashion accessories, home interior pieces and ceramics that are all handmade and have their inspiration in the colours, the tweeds and plaids that are uniquely Scottish. What this gives you is something that is steeped in heritage and is highly unusual, but also very stylish and current.

I was sent the Tweed Factor bag in pink to review. The first thing you notice is the beautiful packaging that the bag arrives in  – it is gift boxed and I think this is also the perfect way to store the bag when it is not in use. The second thing you notice is that the bag is bigger than in appears on the website – this is a decent size and will easily carry purse, wallet, keys, phone, notebook, pens – basically all your everyday paraphernalia. I can also get my camera in – which is a great selling point for me.

The bag is beautiful. Woven from 100% wool, the bag is protected by Nano Sphere which helps to repel dirt and water (great if you have a child with mucky hands). The bag is a flap style clutch bag that has a front zip pocket that would be great for things like train tickets or your Oyster Card – very quick and easy access. The bag is fully lined inside, and has a second internal security pocket with a zip fastening – I use this for bits of make-up that I don’t want to leak all over the bag.

This bag is super versatile, which I hope I’ve shown in the styling. Use it as a clutch and it makes a great evening bag. I teamed it with a grey/black evening dress and heels for a night at the theatre and the bag was entirely appropriate. But add the strap and you get a bag that is fine for everyday use. It leaves your hands free for shopping and pushing a pram or pushchair or using your phone, and also makes the look a little more casual, you can imagine this worn over a chunky knit and jeans in Winter, or boho style with a kimono jacket in Spring/Summer.

If you are looking at adding something a little different to your handbag collection, I would highly recommend a look around Scotsburn Croft. You will find a real designer piece without a designer price tag.
