Brave the rain with cute rain boots

After a lovely dry Summer, and a fairly mild Autumn, it is safe to say that the rain has made an unwelcome appearance, making the school run a rather wet and uncomfortable  experience. I live in a semi-rural area, where drains are prone to overflow, pavements are often covered in deep puddles, and the grassy verges turn to mud very quickly. In these situations, fashion goes out of the window, and I turn to the wellies.

However, these days turning to Wellington’s doesn’t actually mean turning away from fashion and style. There are lots of really cute rain boots around, many of which can be found on a site called, funnily enough,  Cute Rain Boots. This site has a large collection of wellies from brands such as Joules, Hunter, Crocs, and a range of new brands too. I was recently sent a gorgeous pair of Navy Spot Wellies from Joules, currently celebrating 25 years in business, and was really impressed with just how nice they were and how they were packaged.

Love the packaging – a cute drawstring bag.

The boots are made from a tough rubber, and has a thick sole which will definitely keep you upright if we have ice and snow to face. The boots are the higher leg version, but have an adjustable strap on the side that gives a little more leg room if it is required.

I loved the pattern, it is almost 1950s in the polka dot design, and the navy and blue colour way is perfectly complimented by the red and white stripe of the lining. The colours have that distinctly British feel that Joules is famous for. These are style classics that will keep your feet dry and protected all Winter long, and will then look cool enough for those always muddy Summer festivals.

Friday Fashion – My Joules Summer Wishlist

I’m a huge fan of British brand Joules, which is celebrating its 25th birthday this year. The sort of Countryside chic, with elements of Land Girl style that Joules embodies, appeals to my sense of style. For me, Joules says Louella, Stella Tennent, The Queen at Sandringham in wellies and a headscarf, all mixed in with a bit of mud-soaked festival cool. Joules is typically British, and I love it for this.

The current ranges are just gorgeous, so I have compiled a wish list of Joules items that I would love to have in my wardrobe this Summer. There are quirky printed summer dresses, including the Adrienne dress which features a gorgeous 50s style retro print that I have totally feel in love with. There are also more classic designs like nautical striped frocks and vibrant floral prints that would be perfect for summer garden parties and picnics.

Also on my wish list are the Annie cardigans. English Summer’s often require a cardigan at some point of the day, and the Annie design is just a gorgeous classic. I would wear these over floral tea- dresses, or with ankle grazing jeans for a retro look.

Anything that comes in my current favourite colour, sunshine yellow, was always destined to appear on my wishlist. The Elna Leather loafers are an amazing colour, and the design looks soft and comfortable too. I’m also a little bit smitten by the Livvie sandals – minimalist and super cool.

For my final summer pick I turn to bags. I am a handbag obsessive, and I always love Joules beachy summer bags. I love bright shades for Summer, so I really want to be packing the pink striped summer bag in my holiday suitcase this summer.

English Heritage inspiration from Joules

One of my favourite fashion trends of all time is the English heritage trend. Role models as diverse as The Queen and Debo, Duchess of Devonshire  have been at the forefront of this particular trend since their youth, and the mantle has been passed on to Stella Tennant, Luella Bartley and Kate Moss. Films like The Edge of Love have also made English Heritage part of their charm. And this season, it is Joules that has created the perfect English Heritage collection.

The English Heritage look is a design classic. It taps into the slightly disheveled look of the aristocracy off duty. Pretty printed tea dresses teamed with chunky Arran style knits are one of my absolute favourite looks, and tweed jackets, acres of tartan and check prints, and equestrian style touches in terms of buttons and prints are all integral to this look.

The Joules Autumn/Winter collection has all the key prints, fabrics and styles that you would expect from a company that started out selling equestrian gear at Country fairs. No one does the English Country look as well as Joules, and this season there are some real standout pieces. I’m obsessed with the Lowry chunky jumper in one of my fave shades, mustard. I’d love to see it worn nonchalantly with Phoebe striped skirt and a pair of wellies for a look that would totally channel Kiera and Sienna. I also adore the Larkworth Fur Tweed Jacket. This is the sort of piece that you might find in a vintage shop if you were very lucky, the fur collar is just so heritage, a real 1930s vintage piece. And there are so many other pieces to savor. Here are some I would like to find in my wardrobe some time soon.
