The Cannes film festival is always a super glamorous event, and that means for daytime photocalls as well as evening Red Carpet events. This is not an occasion for jeans and t-shirts, the celebrities are never less than dressed up at Cannes. Five fashion eras in one month.
July is turning out to be an interesting month style wise, not least because it is the month when retro styling is embracing so many different eras. Just flicking through some magazines and trawling websites I was amazed to see celebs wearing a range of great looks that span from the 1950s right up to the 1990s. Myths about curves!!
Two stories in the news have caught my eye recently, each suggesting that ‘curves’ are back in style. One story concerned an MP who said that women should aspire to the more healthy, feminine shape of Mad Men‘s Christina Hendricks, rather than skinnier models. The second article concerned the sudden leap in sales of ‘big knickers’, not the Bridget Jones variety, but the 50’s style Waistnippers magic pants that can help achieve a hourglass figure. But before we all heave a great big sigh of relief that curvy is now desirable, perhaps we ought to look more closely at the myths and realities of curves. MYTH ONE – WASN’T MARILYN…
