Christian Louboutin’s first ever nail colour hits Selfridges

Say the term iconic fashion designs, what springs to mind? Chanel’s Little black dress? Diane Von Furstenberg’s wrap dress? Vivienne Westwood’s pirate boots maybe? Or Gianni Versace and a certain safety pin dress? There is every likelihood that all the aforementioned designs are fully deserving of the term iconic, but no list of iconic designs would be complete without Christian Louboutin’s red soled heels.

Christian Louboutin’s red-bottom colour is registered as Pantone 18-1663 TPX, and there is not a fashionista worth her salt who hasn’t paraded her feet in a pair of Christian’s now legendary heels. There are stories that say the original pair of heels were painted red with nail polish, so it is only fitting that Christian Louboutin’s latest product launch is a nail polish, in that oh so familiar red.

unnamedRouge Louboutin is the perfect colour match for those red soles, and is the first nail colour from Christian Louboutin. As you can imagine, it is no ordinary nail polish. It comes in a very special leather -look presentation box, and in a bottle has a pretty faceted design. And then we have to look at the cap. This is no ordinary top. It is the tallest cap that you will find on any bottle of nail polish, designed to be the same size as the highest heel that Louboutin has designed, Ballerina Ultima, which stands at 20.5cm. (8ins).

The colour is fantastic of course, who doesn’t love a deep red nail, and the polish also promises a double patented formula which should deliver a  nail that shines with a highly glossy finish, but is also chip resistant, giving the nail perfect, glamorous coverage.

This is not the cheapest nail polish on the market currently, with the price tag coming in at £36 for 13ml. But it is something that would be a perfect gift for a Louboutin fan, a beauty fan, or just an all round lover of iconic fashion.

Loving Karl Lagerfeld for Shu Uemura – Now at Selfridges

Karl Lagerfeld is finally revealing his fun side in his latest collaboration. The Chanel supremo has got together with cult beauty brand Shu Uemura to create the fun and utterly gorgeous Mon Shu collection.  The beauty collection features both Shu Uemura’s current favourites and a host of brand new colours, beautifully wrapped in new packaging that showcases Mon Shu Girl, illustrated, of course, by Mr Lagerfeld himself.

I love this collection, which combines really cute products with premium beauty. The eye palettes each contain 6 different colours, along with a brush and blender, my personal favourite are the velvet shades that could help you to create the perfect smoky eyes that would help you smoulder at all those Christmas parties.

I have been lucky enough to have been sent one of the nail polishes in the beige shade. This is the perfect nude nail, clean and fresh looking, but you can also use this as a basis for your own Karl nail art as each polish also comes with a very sweet set of nail stickers featuring Mon Shu girl and an iconic 1960sesque red, white and black graphic design. I think this is the perfect stocking filler for a beauty addict.

As well as gorgeous beauty products, the collection also has unique versions of the tools that every girl needs in her cosmetic bag. As a woman who simply cannot apply false eyelashes, there are a great pair of eyelash curlers, again adorned by Mon Shu girl. There is also a really useful mini brush kit that is handbag sized.

Gorgeously Glamorous Gold Beauty arrives at New Look

I can’t express how big a fan I am of the Gold by Giles Clothing range for New Look. In fact, I still possess a pair of ultra wedges from the very first Gold by Giles collection AND the carrier bag they came in. To put it quite simply, Giles Deacon is a British Fashion Icon and New Look is one of the best High Street stores, so this is a match made in Fashion heaven.

So you can imagine how happy I was to hear that Gold was branching out into beauty. This promised to be a collection that had the look and feel of a High End brand with all the value of New Look. And I am very pleased to say that I haven’t been disappointed. The Gold Beauty range is an absolute winner, with prices that will make you gasp.

The collection takes in almost all parts of your facial make-up regime (there  is no foundation at present – the emphasis is on colour).  Nails are also catered for in a range of coloured polishes and nail wraps in Jessie J style prints.  The polishes have a real high-end feel to them and the colours are both rich and varied. My personal favourite is the blue, which I have already purchased, but I also have my eye on the rich Red and the Black, which brings to mind a much lusted over shade from a very famous fashion house.

Gold Beauty pays lots of attention to the eyes. Colour is in the form of Quad eyeshadows which cost just £3.99, and come in shades like ‘envy green’ and ‘scandal eye’. There are gorgeous liquid eye liners in a wide range of colours including turquoise, which I think would give you the perfect Abba eye. For those special occasions, there are also false lashes and a great eyelash curler for a paltry £3.99. Cheap as chips as that permatanned man from Bargain Hunt used to say!

The collection also incorporates both lip gloss tubes and lip gloss wands for looks that will take you from day to evening. The Beauty range is rounded off with blushers and bronzers that cost just £2.99 and will suit a range of skintones.
