Five accessories you can’t live without this summer

Every good fashionista knows it is the accessories that make an outfit. It is these small finishing touches that pull clothes together and take your style up a notch. The summer is filled with accessories from bangle and charm bracelets to straw hats and seventies style sunglasses and each trend has its own rule book for styling up your look with said accessories.

There are a plethora of accessories to choose from, but if you really want to round off a look with minimal fuss and maximum ease, here are our top five picks of this summer’s must-have accessories.

The tribal trend is going to be a strong look this summer; with warm colours, ethnic materials and flowing fabrics it already oozes summer goodness. Bangles key accessories for this trend. There are two bangles from New Look that I really love. The first is the Diamond Pattern Seed Bead Bangle (pictured). Rich shades of orange of and gold are contrasted with crisp, clean white and an African style diamond pattern is the main focal point. The second of our bangles top picks is the Resin and Wood Bangle. This versatile, classic bangle is chic and simple and will work with any outfit.

Kitsch charm bracelets

Tropical prints and luminous shades are clashed until they work this season. Along with neon shades of lime and lemon and tropical floral prints you’ll find a whole host of kitsch accessories. This trend is about eccentricity, but it should look effortless, so keep it light and fun with tropical charm bracelets adorned with palm trees, flowers and seashells.

Straw hats

Relaxed, lazy Californian dressing in pastel hues and washed out denim is an effortless cool and easy trend to try this summer and we absolutely adore it. Along with cut-off denim shorts, sling-back espadrilles and pastel printed tees, the straw hat is a major styling point in this trend. From seventies style floppy sunhats to more structured trilbies and fedoras this is an easy way to finish off this look.

50s styling is elegant, girlie and feminine. This season styling comes straight out of Grease, so think full skirts, belted waists, sweetheart necklines and capped sleeves. Another styling note is the headband. Go for a full-on headscarf to channel Marilyn Monroe or stick with a tied headband evocative of Rizzo.

Over-size pendant necklaces

90s grunge is getting a reworking this summer. Along with lots of denim, band t-shirts, Dr. Marten’s boots, waistcoats, denim jackets, check shirts, lots of black and crop tops you’ll find pendant necklaces. Skull and crossbones, vintage styles, Gothic designs and crosses are designs to look for. Check out Mary-Kate Olsen rocking her own pendant necklace here.

New Look embrace the Grunge Rock trend.

If you admire the style of grungy rock chicks like Agyness Deyn, Alice Dellal and Pixie Geldof, then New Look needs to be added to your style destination list. Channelling the style of those glam girls who always add a bit of a rock edge to their wardrobes, New Look has mixed midi and maxi skirts with brothel creeper brogues that keep the look to the grunge side of feminine.

New Look say ‘Look to London style icon’s Pixie Geldof and Agyness Deyn for inspiration. Whether they are dressed up to the nines on the red carpet or trawling the bars of Camden, both girls work the look with natural ease.’

As someone who loved Nirvana with a passion and thought that Courtney Love was the coolest woman in the World, this is a look that I always find fresh and exciting. Shades of Marc Jacobs for Perry Ellis, shades of The Breeders, and now enshrined with a whole lot of London cool,   this is a great transitional style that almost has me longing for my long departed cherry red DM’S.
