Reviewed – Clarks Azizi Immy in Black Suede

There used to be many words you could use to describe Clarks shoes. Quality would be one apt word, sensible would be another. Practical was another perfect term to describe Clarks footwear. But fashion- forward? Never. But in recent seasons this has become the perfect term to describe shoes that retain all the quality and comfort that you expect from this brand, but with a gorgeous, fashionable edge. And no shoe embodies this better than the Azizi Immy.

I was given a sneak preview of Clarks new range before Christmas, and asked if I would be interested in reviewing a pair of shoes. My eyes were instantly drawn to the Azizi Immy. Metallic heels, black suede and with studded detail, these are a quite simply a total beauty of a pair of shoes, the sort that can easily take you from office and meetings, to an evening out.

The Azizi Immy comes in two shades, mushroom suede and black suede. I opted for black suede as I think this is the classic option, and that every woman needs a really smart pair of black heels in the wardrobe. I think I made the perfect choice, the Azizi Immy’s are a pair of shoes that I will wear and wear. They have a fabulously high heel, but one that is comfortable for everyday wear due to the thickness of the heel and the island platform on the front of the shoe. The softwear layer inside the shoe gives the impression of walking on a cushion of air, again adding to the comfort levels if you intend to wear this shoe to work.

The black and gold colour way of this shoe makes it easy to team with so many outfit – I think the camel coat is a great match. The studding detail and the bow on the front make the shoes really attractive, and certainly smart and dressy enough for an evening out.

DSCN5990The one thing I would say in terms of comfort is that the shoes do have a higher back than a normal heeled shoe. This can take a little bit of getting used to, but this is a minor niggle rather than a major headache.

I really love my Azizi Immy’s, which are just so stylish that you wouldn’t expect them to be so comfortable too. A double bonus.

Reviewed – Barratts Mary Jane Wedge Court Shoe

When it comes to shoes, I must admit to being a little bit obsessed. I can often resist the urge to buy new clothes, or jewellery, or even gorgeous handbags, but resisting then urge to buy gorgeous shoes is another matter. If there is such a thing as a shoe-pie(bit of a play on a magpie there), or a Shoe-nista, or just a plain shoe fiend, that would definitely be a label to fit me.

carrieseason4gSo an opportunity to review shoes is one I will never turn down. Especially when the offer comes from one of my old favourite brands, with the chance to chose the shoes. Barratts has been a shoe stockist I have spent lots of time in over the years.  I was totally gutted when Barratts disappeared from the High Street, it was a favourite shoe haunt of mine for years, particularly the lovely big branch in Birmingham. However, the brand still survives online and the choice is as good as ever.

Mary Jane Wedge Court Shoes

My choice from the extensive Barratts website were the Mary Jane Wedge Court shoe. As you can imagine from their name, these shoes combine the best elements of many different kind of shoes. The smartness of a court shoe with round toe and court shoe shape. The front strap details of the Mary Jane shoe, which makes them cute as a button in my eyes. And then there is the wedge heel which makes them as stylish, but twice as comfortable as a heeled court.

These are a simply gorgeous pair of shoes. The neutral beige colour means they are a perfect match for any outfit, and will look as great with chunky tights as they do with bare legs. I really liked the suede feel of them, a nice change from leather and patent wedges. Being a wedge, the shoes elongate the legs, but as previously mentioned, they are so much more comfortable than my traditional high heels, which makes them a good choice as a work shoe too.

DSCN4224I wore these shoes for the first time for the opening of the new Primark in West Bromwich (you can read that post here.) and I was surprised at how comfortable they were. However, I need to mention that I went a size up in these, choosing a six rather than a five, mainly because I am mostly comfortable in half sizes, a 5.5 being perfect for me. I would say if you wear a half size, or suffer from your feet swelling when they get hot, I would chose the next size up. But, all in all, a pretty perfect and practical pair of shoes.

With huge thanks to Kieron Casey and Barratts for the wonderful shoes.

Shoes for Christmas for the man in your life

If you are wondering what to get for your other half this Christmas, a pair of shoes or boots are a practical and stylish gift idea. You can tailor the style you choose to suit your man, and unlike other fashion items, you know that every man is guaranteed to wear shoes, making them a safe option too.

Shoes and boots for men have really moved on in fashion terms during the last few years. One of the key styles for men of all ages is the Desert Boot.  Desert boots have seen a real resurgence in popularity, with Clarks re-introducing their classic design, and other labels taking their lead. They have now become a real smart alternative as every-day footwear to the trainer, looking great with chinos and coloured denim, also proving to be both comfortable and hardwearing.  Sioux are another brand that have taken the classic desert boot style and have smartened it up in neat black suede, making this an acceptable look for evening wear too.

Spartoo have a great range of men’s smart/casual looks in footwear this season, many with seasonal reductions that make them an even more attractive choice this Christmas. So, if you’re not sure of your man’s shoe size (and believe me, this happens, I asked my sister her husband of two years shoe size recently and she answered ‘How the heck should I know?’ which did make me laugh out loud), grab his trainer, take a look, and order online – it couldn’t be easier.
