The Royal wedding was a perfect excuse for fashion watching. I got up really early to watch the guests arrive in all their sartorial splendour, and I wasn’t disappointed. The wedding guest style had everything, from the brights of Joss Stone and Tara Palmer Tompkinson, the Phillip Treacy hats that gave more than a passing glance to the style of the late Isabella Blow, the surprising elegance of Camilla Parker Bowles, and the extraordinary outfit choices of the Princesses of York. Victoria Beckham is now a long way away from her Spice Girl incarnation, and with her latest collection unveiled at New York fashion week, and huge waiting lists for her bags, she has finally been accepted as a talented designer who is here to stay. Here new collection has received praise from fashionistas and critics alike. Myths about curves!!
Two stories in the news have caught my eye recently, each suggesting that ‘curves’ are back in style. One story concerned an MP who said that women should aspire to the more healthy, feminine shape of Mad Men‘s Christina Hendricks, rather than skinnier models. The second article concerned the sudden leap in sales of ‘big knickers’, not the Bridget Jones variety, but the 50’s style Waistnippers magic pants that can help achieve a hourglass figure.
