Victoria Beckham at New York Fashion week

Sometimes it’s hard to believe she was ever Posh Spice. Victoria Beckham is now a long way away from her Spice Girl incarnation, and with her latest collection unveiled at New York fashion week, and huge waiting lists for her bags, she has finally been accepted as a talented designer who is here to stay.

Here new collection has received praise from fashionistas and critics alike.  The 29 piece collection marked a departure from the form-fitting dresses of the previous ranges, with  of soft fabrics and looser fitting dresses in a range of lengths. Many of the dresses had a streamlined effect, and the overall impression left was of a minimalist collection that owed much to early Calvin Klein.

The models were also simply styled, wearing black skull caps that meant that hairstyles did not detract from the clothes, and helped to give the show a sleek, uniform feel.  Each outfit was worn with a pair of boots or shoe boots from the collaboration between Victoria and Christian Louboutin.

Red was the colour of choice, and appeared in the collection in abundance, most notably in a stunning red coat and 1960s style box bag that was one of my key pieces from the collection. The mustard dress with the high neckline is sure to become a favourite amongst the celeb fans and would look amazing on Leighton Meester, who has worn Victoria Beckham before. My favourite piece of the whole collection was a stunning blue full length dress that had an early 1960s feel to it.

Overall, this is a very grown up collection of dresses for women rather than girls.  The jersey style fabric, fluid pleating and useful pockets show that Victoria is truly thinking with a designers eye about what women really want from a dress. The fact that these have been teamed with boots rather than strappy sandals with 10 inch heels shows that this is a collection that is totally wearable, and will adapt as daywear. Victoria’s whole collection is a truimph that she deserves all the plaudits for.
