The Met Gala – My favourite looks
Last night saw fashion’s most glamorous night, with the annual Met Gala taking place in New York. Everybody who was anybody, in the fashion world, in Hollywood, in television, turned out in force, showing off an array of some of the most beautiful gowns I have ever seen.
The theme this year was linked to a new exhibition dedicated to Charles James, the 1940s/1950s king of couture. The Beyond Fashion exhibition was opened this week by Michelle Obama, and showcases a range of billowy, dramatic, sculptured dresses that Charles James was famous for. I was glad to see so many Charles James influenced dresses on the Met red carpet, most notably in the incredible Marchesa dress worn by supermodel (and my best dressed on the night) Karolina Kurkova.
Other looks I loved also harked back to the glorious 1950s era. Karen Elson was almost regal in a stunning pink full gown from Zac Posen, whilst Suki Waterhouse kept the pink theme going in a frothy tiered number from Burberry. Sarah Jessica Parker was loyal to Oscar De La Renta, and had a Carrie Bradshaw moment in a black and white gown which had Oscar’s signature on the train.
The best dresses seemed to come from Zac Posen and Oscar De La Renta, designers who are totally in tune with the era of high polish and elegance that Charles James came from.
Here are my faves in full – would love to know yours?

I love the Caroline Herrera dress! Love this year’s looks more than the high fashion punk version of last year.

Suki looks stunning in Burberry…And SJP is sensational in Oscar de la Renta…
