New Look – Suki Waterhouse is the new face of the brand.

Suki Waterhouse is one of the most iconic models working today. She has the sort of looks – doe eyed, long blonde hair and beestung lips, that bring to mind Jean Shrimpton at the height of the 1960s. She is also famous for her relationship with Hollywood actor Bradley Cooper, and now she has been chosen as the face of New Look’s Autumn/Winter fashion campaign for 2016/7.

Suki looks amazing in the ad campaign, and has also chosen an edit of her favourites from the current collection. The collection cleverly combines pieces that will work throughout Autumn/Winter as every day pieces, the boyfriend coat in this season’s very popular khaki shade, a range of trousers and skinny jeans, plaid shirts that bring to mind the very best of early 90s grunge fashion, and feminine tops and blouses with frills that will team well with both jeans, or fitted skirts for a casual, or more dressy look.

There are also dressier pieces that will work in the run up to Christmas (yes it is that time of year again, although we are promised a bit of an Indian Summer and a heatwave this week.) The dark green leather look mini skirt and the rust sateen cami top are really great wardrobe pieces that will be so hard working in your wardrobe – imagine that cami under a tuxedo style jacket and cigarette pants for a YSL Le Smoking inspired look. Or team the leather look skirt with a sleeveless black polo neck for a 60s inspired look – all smokey eyes and bouffant hair.

The great thing is that the pieces are so affordable – the sateen top, which is on my hit list, is just £9.99, and the fabulous khaki coat is another steal at less than £40. I think New Look have come up trumps once again with this collection. No wonder it has Suki’s approval.

The Met Gala – My favourite looks

Last night saw fashion’s most glamorous night, with the annual Met Gala taking place in New York. Everybody who was anybody, in the fashion world, in Hollywood, in television, turned out in force, showing off an array of some of the most beautiful gowns I have ever seen.

The theme this year was linked to a new exhibition dedicated to Charles James, the 1940s/1950s king of couture. The Beyond Fashion exhibition was opened this week by Michelle Obama, and showcases a range of billowy, dramatic,  sculptured dresses that Charles James was famous for. I was glad to see so many Charles James influenced dresses on the Met red carpet, most notably in the incredible Marchesa dress worn by supermodel (and my best dressed on the night) Karolina Kurkova.

Other looks I loved also harked back to the glorious 1950s era. Karen Elson was almost regal in a stunning pink full gown from Zac Posen, whilst Suki Waterhouse kept the pink theme going in a frothy tiered number from Burberry. Sarah Jessica Parker was loyal to Oscar De La Renta, and had a Carrie Bradshaw moment in a black and white gown which had Oscar’s signature on the train.

The best dresses seemed to come from Zac Posen and Oscar De La Renta, designers who are totally in tune with the era of high polish and elegance that Charles James came from.

Here are my faves in full – would love to know yours?

Favourite looks from the Elle Style Awards

Tonight saw a whole host of stylish ladies attending the Elle Style Awards. One of the most respected of all style awards, this year saw luminaries like Emma Watson, Ellie Goulding, Jessie J, Suki Waterhouse and Cara Delevingne amongst the ladies in attendance.  With a guest list like this, we were promised some interesting looks at the very least, and unfortunately, it has to be said that most of the looks on display were to be admired for being interesting, rather than actually looking that good.

Cara seemed to be dressed in a black satin dressing gown, Jessie J was basically beyond words and Ellie was again sans knickers and flashing the flesh, this time in a Matthew Williamson catsuit which I quite liked, but do feel we have seen before on Ellie. Luckily, there were some looks that were successful, including Sophie Ellie Bextor in William Vintage, and a very glamorous Lily Allen in form-fitting Roland Mouret.

Here are the looks that I rated.

Suki Waterhouse in Burberry

I think she has looked great of late, and this understated look from Suki plays up her natural 1960s style beauty.

Felicity Jones

I’m a real fan of Felicity’s pretty prom style, she reminds me of Zooey Deschanel. This dress is just lovely, I love the hot pink shade which is great against her dark hair.

Olga Kurylenko

Olga is fast becoming a style star who never puts a foot wrong. I love the fabric of this dress and the multi strap detail. I would’ve preferred a silver strappy shoe, but that is a minor moan, Olga does look fabulous.

Amber kept it short and sassy in a black beaded dress. I love that she kept her hair up and left the jewellery at home. Also loving the silver accessories.

Sophie Ellis Bextor

I’m always a sucker for vintage, and Sophie is one of the key purveyors of the retro look. This is Grace Kelly ice blue, and I love the simple style. Adding the quirky dotted shoes was a masterstroke and true to Sophie’s kooky roots.
