The season of the cold shoulder
One of the key fashion trends of Spring/Summer 2016 has been the bare shouldered look. Whether we are looking at strategic cutouts to give the cold shouldered look, or at full on Brigitte Bardot style, shoulders seem to be fashions new erogenous zone. This is a style that is everywhere, and works for both dresses and tops.
Celebrity Inspiration
Shoulder baring tops do not conform to one style or trend. They can be worn casually with jeans a la Olivia Palermo, or as a fashion-forward directional look like that worn by Solange. Boho, sexy or worn with dungarees, Bardot styles are possibly the perfect summer top, with a style that can satisfy every taste.
JD Williams currently has a great range of Bardot and cold shoulder tops, and I wore one of my current favourites during the glorious Bank Holiday weekend. The frill Bardot top has a real 1970s retro feel due to the cheesecloth material, and comes in a slightly longer length which makes it a great choice to wear loose over jeans or trousers. I chose to wear it with a long maxi skirt and mustard wedges for a boho 70s look that I think is great for sunny days and for packing in your holiday suitcase.
This top is brilliant in that you can wear it two ways, sitting on the shoulder, or pulled further down in full Bardot style. The neckline is super pretty, with a large frill detail which goes all the way around the top, and the colour is a really vibrant mustard shade that looks so good when contrasted against deep primary colours, or worn with classic black or denim.
This is super comfortable to wear, is true to size and is already a summer staple in my wardrobe. It also comes in black and ivory, I’m definitely going to add the black to my wardrobe before my upcoming holiday.

I love this look, and I’ve seen a lot of tops like this in the shops at the moment. It is both sexy and demure.

Nice look! Last time I tried an off the shoulder top I was fidgeting with it all day, so I don’t think it’s one for me – it suits you though!

I love your outfit, I’ve been a little scared to try the “cold shoulder” tops and even dresses. I’ve got quite broad shoulders so that’s why I’m reluctant to try them. But maybe I should give them a go as they do look fabulous on most people!

Ah these colours are amazing together and suit you. I don’t mind off the shoulder tops, I was wearing quite a few crop off the shoulder ones a couple year back xo
