Harvey Nichols hosts a secret fashion show
Last Wednesday saw a very special, clandestine fashion show held in Birmingham. Harvey Nichols, based in Birmingham’s Mailbox, is known for bringing style and panache to their shows. The A/W 2013/4 show was a large and lavish affair, with more than 600 attendees. But current renovation work at the Mailbox necessitated a rethink, and the Harvey Nicks team did not disappoint. Moving on from the grand spectacle of last year, we were treated to an intimate affair that was quite literally the hottest ticket in town. Top secret, there were no tweets or posts until the very day, and 600 guests were replaced by a guest list of just 120…

Beauty School dropout had a lessons in cosmetics from Benefit, Skincare from Space NK, and combined this with a tuck shop, a dress up box, and a real lesson in art from the super talented Milly Jackson. It was quite a night! The beauty lessons were informative and interesting, with the team from Benefit giving lots of advice including the importance of wearing primer under your make-up, and great tips on how to apply liquid eyeliner. (One great idea was to practice with pencil…

Review – Let it Be at the New Alexandra Theatre
For as long as I can remember, I have been a fan of The Beatles. As a child I had one of those ‘first’ record players (I know there are some people reading this right now thinking what’s a record player – grrr). These were the portable ones with a lid and a carry handle and it went everywhere with me. I used to plunder mom and dad’s record collection, and loved ‘From me to you’, ‘Hello Goodbye’ and ‘Get Back’ on that instantly recognisable Apple record label. For me, The Beatles are the standard that all other bands aspire to, their music is what the word ‘classic’ was invented…
