Making Pancakes with BlueZoo and Debenhams
Pancake Day must be rated as Joe’s favourite food event, he absolutely loves them, especially if eaten with ice cream or chocolate sauce. I, on the other hand, hate them with a passion, which, in the past, has made Shrove Tuesday, aka Pancake Day, a total non-event for me. But taking Joe’s love for the stuff into account, an invitation from Debenhams, and, in particular their fabulous clothing brand BlueZoo, to make pancakes with some new kitchen equipment` and lovely new season clothes for Joe was an offer that we couldn’t refuse. It was off to the supermarket to get batter mix and eggs for us. Pancakes are such a…

Happy 1st Birthday to The Balcony
One of Birmingham’s favourite food and drink venues celebrated its first birthday with a rather swanky party last week. The Balcony, situated in Birmingham’s iconic Selfridges and part of the Searcy’s group, has become a place renowned for its fabulous cocktails and eclectic food choices, as well as a celebrity haunt, and it enjoyed a first birthday party that was high on style and substance, with music from a string quartet and canapes that showed off the favourite dishes from The Balcony’s menu. Alice Weyrk, general manager of The Balcony said about the night:- “Birmingham is a wonderful city, and we’re so glad we’ve been able to contribute to what…

Dreaming of Summer and Ice Cream
I just love Ice Cream. It is a fact that everyone close to me knows very well, I’ve even put it on my Twitter profile. Chocolate, toffee, caramel and coffee (made a rhyme there!) are my fave flavours, but I’m also very partial to Vanilla as long as it is Cornish, or mint choc chip too. Ice Cream Sundaes are definitely amongst my very favourite things, and now I seem to be passing this passion onto Joe. Check out the photographic evidence below for further proof. Part of the charm of traditional ice cream is eating it from a van, in Summer sunshine. When I pay a visit to my…

Lasan – A jewel in Birmingham’s food crown
It makes me totally ashamed, as a foodie, to admit that, until yesterday, I had never tried the fragrant delights of Lasan, the restaurant judged by Gordon Ramsey to be the best local restaurant in the UK. Well, it is safe to say that although this was my first visit, it will most definitely not be my last. The food, service and setting were all, quite simply, perfection. Lasan is situated just off Birmingham’s St Paul’s Square. The restaurant has a cool, contemporary decor with large picture windows helping the light to flood in. There are a selection of tables of varying sizes, certainly making this a wonderful place to…

Making Merry with No Headache, Scotland’s New Beer Trend
‘Tis the season once again, and for many people, Christmas parties mean one thing: drinking. But chances are that many Scots will make it through the season responsibly as 48% of Scottish adults recently polled are now willing to give alcohol-free beer a chance. The research shows that 49% of UK people think alcohol-free beer is far more socially acceptable now than five years ago. With 59% of British people now feeling conformable ordering alcohol-free beers at restaurants and bars in front of friends, it seems that most of our after-party worries are reserved for our dubious dancing skills on show the night before. In fact, it looks like this…
