Stylish Television: The Ipcress File
In the wake of the fabulous final series of Peaky Blinders, there has been another brilliant series on terrestrial TV at 9pm on Sunday nights, one which has been unfairly overshadowed in my opinion. This series is The Ipcress File, which has its own link to Peaky Blinders in its lead actor Joe Cole, who played John Shelby in the BBC series before coming to an untimely end. The Ipcress File is based on the 1962 novel by Len Deighton that is centred around Harry Palmer, an unlikely and rather reluctant British agent taking part in activities in Berlin at the height of the Cold War. It has been filmed…

Peaky Blinders Series 6 – Is Gina Grey The Breakout Star?
Last night saw one of the most eagerly awaited television events of the year, as the opening episode of the 6th, and final series of the iconic Peaky Blinders was aired. It was an emotional affair, as the programme said goodbye to the wonderful Aunt Poll, aka actress Helen McCrory who tragically died of cancer last year. The new series is set four years after that event, with Tommy in America to broker a drugs deal, Arthur lost in a haze of alcohol, and Polly’s son Michael vowing revenge on the person he feels is responsible for his Mother’s death, his uncle Tommy. And, In the midst of all this,…

Stylish Television: Chloe
Chloe is my current television obsession. The BBC drama, which will come to its conclusion next Sunday, is by far the most stylish television programme of the year, and features an incredible lead performance from Erin Doherty, last seen as a feisty Princess Anne in The Crown. Incredibly twisty and turning, the series has you on the edge of your seat, tension filled goes nowhere near describing it. Chloe is about the death of a local socialite, and her former friend Becky Green, who becomes obsessed with finding out the truth about her life and death, infiltrating her family and friendship group in the guise of Sasha in order to…

Christmas Must Watch: A Very British Scandal
At the weekend I continued a Christmas tradition that has taken place ever since I was a little girl – I picked up my copy of the Christmas Radio Times. I never buy it at any other time of the year, in fact I no longer buy any TV magazine, I just use the Sky planner to plot my telly viewing, but at Christmas, I feel the need to grab the Radio Times and a pen, and to circle everything I am going to be watching. This year, the programme I am most looking forward to is ‘A Very British Scandal’, the absolute epitome of much watch television. A Very…

Poirot And More At The Rep, Birmingham
David Suchet has had one hell of a career. A renowned character actor of over 50 years, he has a role call of films and television that is to be proud of. Add into that his leading roles as a Shakespearian actor and you begin to understand that having David Suchet in a production is a sign of quality. And then there is Poirot... From the late 1980s David Suchet was Poirot, Agatha Christie’s beloved Belgium detective, playing him in a way that nobody had before, ultra intelligent, fastidious, with clear attention to detail, and also with a personality that was there to admire, rather than make fun of. Now,…
