Markus Lupfer brings style and Charm to Birmingham
Markus Lupfer, is, without doubt, one of fashion’s brightest stars. His ebullient take on knitwear filled with acres of sparkle is adored by fashionistas and A-List celebrities alike. So it was a very excited Fashion-Mommy who made her way to the fabulous Harvey Nichols store in Birmingham’s Mailbox on Wednesday night to watch an exclusive trunk show presented by the great man himself, along with Relative Mo’s Sara Byworth – PR par excellence. Harvey Nichols are true masters of hospitality at these events, and this occasion was a great example of this. Champagne and fabulous canapes were available for guests, along with a wonderful goodie bag for each spectator. A…

Androgynous style- Do it like a dude.
I sat reading a book about Marlene Dietrich today. She was just the most stunning women imaginable, with legendary sex appeal. And this was never more apparent than when she dressing like a man. Marlene’s wardrobe, both in films (In Morocco she famously sported a tuxedo and top hat) and in real life veered towards mannish tailoring. And the androgynous spirit of Marlene is alive and kicking in the fashion world today. One of music’s hottest new stars, Janelle Monae, acknowledges Dietrich as a style icon, and works that tuxedo look to its best advantage. Rihanna wore a stylised D&G Tuxedo to the Met Ball, whilst Leighton Meister was widely…

New York Fashion Week – Wu, Wang and Prabal Gurung
New York fashion week is fully into its stride, and there have been some much-anticipated collections showcased so far. The front rows have been full of fashionistas and icons including Alexa Chung, Rose McGowan, Anna Wintour and teen blogger Tavi. Here I give you my opinions on three of the hottest designers of the moment – Jason Wu, Alexander Wang and Prabal Gurung. Jason WU – Ready to wear Autumn/Winter 2011. Jason Wu’s collection was a mixture of androgyny and high glamour. The collection was strong on monochrome black/whites and greys, but with elements of block primary colours thrown into the mix. There were looks back to the past, with…

Paris Couture Week – Valentino, Gaultier and Elie Saab
Paris fashion week was full of beautiful outfits, catwalk surprises and star appearances, and the shows of Valentino, Elie Saab and Gaultier had all three. From the buttermilk shades on display at Valentino, to the mixture of Punk 76 and Moulin Rouge Gay Paris 90s at Gaultier, the shows had colour, drama and, with the male model bride that closed the Gaultier show, the ability to shock. As expected, the front rows were filled with stylish fashionistas sporting a sea of black outfits. Dita Von Teese made appearances at both the Jean Paul Gaultier and Elie Saab shows, wearing her trademark Black Dahlia look. Catherine Deneuve was also front row…

Paris Couture week – style, celebs and Chanel
Paris Couture week should really be suffering. We are in the middle of the Worlds worst depression since the 1930s, times are undoubtably hard for a majority of the worlds populus, and Paris Couture is renowned for being the most exquisitely expensive of vestments. The beautiful, frivolous designs that could only be worn by models on the catwalk seem to be a luxury that is outdated in our modern, fast fashion society, where celebs are often pictured wearing High Street, and Lanvin, Jil Sander, Karl Lagerfeld are names that can be found in Uniqlo and H&M as well as in their own luxury boutiques. But every year Paris Couture week…
