An evening of shopping and Fizz at Tommy Hilfiger, The Mailbox

Last week I attended a super stylish event at Tommy Hilfiger in Birmingham’s stunning Mailbox.  The event was a perfect excuse to preview the new Spring/Summer collections whilst enjoying food treats from Tom’s Dinner and a chilled glass of Champagne. You could also take advantage of 20% off any purchases on the night, allowing you to update your wardrobe and save some pennies.

The Tommy Hilfiger store in The Mailbox is a bright shiny store that is a gorgeous back drop to the classic, nautical and preppy designs that are the trademark of TH. This season there are lots of great pieces featuring stripes and pretty prints, as well as designs in bold, bright colours, yellow, navy, white and red. The designs are crisp, clean, elegant and totally timeless, statement pieces that you will be able to enjoy for many summer’s to come.

On the evening you could also enjoy a personalised monogramming service, which proved to be extremely popular. Another popular selection were the sunglasses from the collection with current fashion darling Gigi Hadid.

Below are some of my favourite picks from the current collection, I would love to know your thoughts.

The plain wedges are very Kate Middleton.

How incredible is this mac? It would look so good over jeans, belted nonchalantly.

This is quite an unexpected piece from Tommy Hilfiger, a move away from the stripes and block colour, but very floaty and pretty.

This basket was a really popular piece, it is just so holiday friendly.

Bardot style dresses and tops are showing no signs of disappearing, which is great as I’ve never heard anyone say they didn’t like their shoulders.

One of my faves, this dress is such a classic piece. Team it with white plimsolls to dress it down.

That bag = total lust.

This dress, which also comes in white, has such a tennis/sporty aesthetic.

Classic Tommy Hilfiger.

Your Five – fashion and beauty at Bullring

Your Five is a special fashion and beauty showcase and preview organised by the Bullring shopping centre twice yearly. The idea is a personalised, one to one appointment where you are able to talk about the key trends for the season, and are shown a range of pieces that fit the trend and are available from Bullring stores. The items chosen scan a range of budgets and stores, with Ted Baker, Oasis, New Look, Reiss and Miss Selfridge all represented this time around.  You can choose your favourites from each catagory and they are photographed and then sent to your email address, with stockist details and prices so that you can always shop for them at a later date.

I was feeling very ropey this weekend, suffering from a cold and streaming eyes, but I made my way to look at the key season trends that Bullring had selected. With Winter clearly in mind, coats were a big talking point, and I loved so many of those selected, with beautiful wool coats in soft shades from both Reiss and Ted Baker, but my favourite was the Crombie style coat in animal print from New Look – definitely added to my shopping list. Ankle boots were the shoe focus, with metallics being very popular, but I was more drawn to the coloured suede versions from Clarks and New Look.

The trouser trend is moving away from skinny fits and into stylish wide leg styles that evoke the 1930s and 1970s. I loved the Topshop bottle green cropped versions that I think would look stunning worn Jane Fonda ‘Klute’ style, with a skinny polo neck and knee high boots. The skirt selection was also just stunning, with pleats, net, tulle, leather and metallics all available in beautiful abundance. I love that so many of the skirts are knee and midi length, and just loved the elegance of the full skirted variety.

As well as fashion, Your 5 also looks at beauty, with a focus on a red lip. This is something I tend not to wear as I never think red suits me – as much as I love it. However, I was really pleased with the colour chosen for me, red with a more coral tint from Chanel (148 I think) and it certainly made me look again at my aversion to lip pencil and red lips.

Bravissimo Opens in Birmingham

Rejoice ladies of the Midlands who don’t conform to the average bra sizes, we now have a destination in Birmingham where we can find beautiful underwear in the most sumptuous of surroundings. Bravissimo has now opened on the revitalised Cannon Street, and offers a glorious range of underwear, sleepwear and clothing that takes all cup sizes into consideration. I went along a couple of days ago to check out the ranges, and the bra fitting service. The verdict? I wanted to buy the whole store!

“Today, Bravissimo customers are able to ask themselves ‘which bra do I like’ rather than ‘what comes in my size’.”  I love the Bravissimo philosophy when it comes to underwear, with cup sizes that go straight up to L. They realise that swimwear also needs this sort of range, and that dresses could also fit better if they addressed that not all women who are size 18 have the same sized breasts. It really feels that when you walk into Bravissimo, you have so much choice available, whatever your size.

The new Cannon Street store is a real destination. On two levels, the first floor stocks bras and underwear from brands such as Panache, Lepel, Curvy Kate and Freya, as well as Bravissimo’s own designs. There is also the fabulous Pepperberry range of clothing (so many beautiful dresses!) and swimwear and underwear. All items come in a fabulous range of sizes, and there are also maternity options and underwear that is perfect for wearing under wedding dresses.

The ground floor is the bra fitting suite and it is just beautiful, with sofas where your friends can sit and wait in comfort while you have a fitting. The dressing rooms are lovely – all are named after customers, with quotes from said customers on the inside of the door. A lovely robe hangs inside so you are not left half naked whilst you are waiting for different sizes and designs.

I was totally shocked by just how accurate and quick the fitting is. There are no tape measures, Bravissimo can find the size you need by looking at your breasts and taking in the size and the shape.  Catriona, who fitted me, was very accurate in finding the size I needed (38F) and in remembering the designs that I had liked as we had walked the store. She also gave me lots of tips on how to put on a bra, no more fastening around the front and twisting it around – you will damage the wires for a start. You need to put your arms into the bra and then fasten on the widest hooks, this will give you the option to tighten your bra once it has been washed a few times.

Bravissimo offers a really brilliant service in terms of fitting and design for those of us who generally struggle with bras – no more ugly boulder holders hoisting us into shape – these days the designs are fresh, sexy, flirty – basically whatever we want them to be.
