B Public Relations Christmas in July

Last week, in the middle of a sweltering July week, I attended a whole host of Christmas press days. It was a weird and yet wonderful experience. The first event I attended was for B Public Relations, who represent a whole host of fabulous beauty and fashion companies, including the very much in the news maternity brand Seraphine (beloved of the Duchess of Cambridge), Truffle Shuffle and my fave of all bathtime products Bodhi.

Choosing the stunning surroundings of the Saville Club (truly whit whoo if you’ve never paid a visit) and treating press and bloggers to a very lovely breakfast that included smoked salmon and pancakes smothered in treacle, this was a really lovely morning. And, it has to be said, a great start to Christmas….

Here are some of the great brands who were displaying their wares at the B PR press event, and some of my fave products that were on display.

I love this brand, who treat us to fabulous Christmas treats in the form of Advent calenders each year. This year there are also cute Christmas baubles featuring gorgeous beauty treats.

My lovely friend Elijah Choo has come up trumps with his amazing Christmas gift sets. The packaging just screams luxury and those scents will linger on the skin and in the memory. Top of my Christmas list for sure.

Shelly’s Shoes

I’m so excited to see one of my favourite shoe brands of the 1990s making a bit of a comeback. Although, looking at this collection, I would say this festive offering owes more to the decade of glam rock than Kurt Cobain.

Miss Patina

A brand I was unfamiliar with, but now love. This collection has a real 1940s, Land Girl feel and is full of pretty knits with great collar details, and dresses with a definite vintage inspiration behind them.

Karen 'From frumpy to Funky' loved this dress!

Lydia Rose Bright

My favourite (now ex) Towie star has another hit on her hands with her latest collection, which again has a delicate vintage vibe. I totally fell in love with this beautiful blouse.

Truffle Shuffle

Oh my! Where to start with this kitsch, cute and often hilarious collection. My little Pony and Superman are amongst the stars, and the Christmas designs are just inspired!

This brand has soared into the super league in the last week, as the Duchess of Cambridge chose one of their dresses when she left London to enjoy her first days as a mommy. The new range of stylish maternity wear is just as impressive.

Eric Bompard

Stunning cashmere pieces that look and feel amazing, the Eric Bompard collection was one of my favourites for its classic designs in a range of beautiful colours. Cashmere at its best.

Bodhi Spa Soiree – a night of luxury

There are some invites that you simply cannot ignore. Dinner with George Clooney, a trip to the top of The Shard, anything all expenses paid and involving shopping, the list is full of the sorts of experiences that would linger in the memory forever. And an invitation to a special Spa Soiree with one of my favourite brands, Bodhi, is another experience that you simply could not turn down, even if you were feeling quite poorly. (As I, unfortunately, was last week).

Being Bodhi, this was no ordinary Spa evening. Taking place in the plush surroundings of the penthouse of the ‘Staying Cool’ apartments in Birmingham’s Iconic Rotunda building, and with a guest list that included top beauty bloggers from across the country, long-term friends of the brand, and Midland TV and radio personalities, the evening was a celebration of natural, organic beauty in the form of some of Bodhi’s brand new products, with opportunities to experience the brand at first hand through massage and facial treatments.

With BBC's Joanne Malin enjoying the products

Bodhi supremo Elijah Choo, along with right-hand lady Kelly Clarke, were there to introduce some of the exciting new products that are further proof that the Bodhi brand continues to grow and move from strength to strength.  Of course, the best way to experience any new product is to actually try it, and Elijah was positively encouraging guests to roll their sleeves up and experience the beauty of Bodhi’s new products. The total hero product of the night was the new salt scrub, a new product from the Artisan series, ‘Rosemary Chi Himalayan Detox Salt Scrub’. I used this product on my hands in warm water, giving them a fairly vigorous scrubbing, and was totally shocked by the result. To put it bluntly, my hands were softer than a baby’s bottom, feeling nourished, cleansed and totally invigorated. I have since used this product all over and can safely say the results are the same – unbelievably good, perfect for holiday skin.

The new products were beautifully showcased in the Staying Cool Penthouse

There were other new products that Bodhi tempted and teased with. The Mint the temple balm is a product I can’t wait to add to my toiletry bag, perfect for rubbing into the temple to aid relaxation and ease those tension headaches which can be such a blight to my life. I also loved the soothing cacao lip balm, the only problem being resisting the temptation to stop licking it off my lips, it tasted so yummy. Luckily Elijah knows his audience well, and the lip treatment balm is 100% edible.

Enjoying Blue tea in the wind, 20 stories above Brum.

Before my night was over I was treated to a fabulous facial by Jess from Spoiltface. I was prepared for my facial with a special blue tea, which was both refreshing and delicious. Elijah had especially chosen the tea to compliment my treatment,  and had also recommended a suitable treatment for me, which involved the Desert Rose rejuvenating oil, something that really helps stressed and tired skin, and is also brilliant for anti-aging. The facial session was a very relaxing experience (I almost fell asleep) with Jess a very calm presence who lulls you into relaxing. By the end of the session I felt 10 years younger, my skin was super soft and glowing, and the dryness I sometimes experience around the edge of my face was gone. My skin just felt so good, and so clean.

I had the most amazing time at the Bodhi Spa Soiree. The icing on the cake was a stunning goodie bag that contained a tub of the Salt Scrub, along with two more new products, the Neroli Luce revitalising face oil, and the Flora Paradiso de-stress massage and body oil. I am going to review both products in the coming weeks, so keep your eyes open for more Bodhi on the blog.

With huge thanks to Elijah Choo, Kelly-Louise Clarke and Rewired PR.

Packing a Man’s Overnight bag – The Lowdown

My husband has to go into hospital at the end of this week, hopefully for a very short (read overnight) stay. To say this is causing consternation would be the understatement of the year. So far he has asked me to check out our medical insurance, the cost of private healthcare, and case studies of medical negligence – all ‘just in case’ (his words, not mine).

And don’t even get me started on the overnight bag. You would think this would be simple – a few essentials, something to sleep in, job done. But no, this has become the cause of some fretting, what to pack, and what to leave out?  What exactly do you put in an overnight bag, whether it be for hospital, or just a normal overnight business trip?

In honour of this, I have put together a checklist of essentials for an overnight stay. Let me know if I’ve missed anything out.

1. Overnight bag

This Armani jeans overnight bag from Selfridges is amazing quality, and you just know that the fact that it is also wipe clean is going to help it look good for years. Extra side pockets are also a bonus, useful for things like keys and business cards.

 Something to sleep in.

Even if your other half usually sleep in the buff, the chances are, that away from home, some sort of nightwear is required. I think a safe option are pajamas’s that resemble lounge wear. These tend to be comfortable and more up-to-date than those buttoned up, ‘Only when I laugh’ pj’s once sported by Peter Bowles and friends.

These days, there is no reason to pack the complete contents of the bathroom cabinet when going on an overnight journey. Most high-end bath and beauty brands stock travel kits which contain most the bathroom essentials. I love the Enlightened traveler Limited Edition kit from Bodhi which contains a wealth of gorgeous products in a wonderful overnight bag.

Personal Grooming.

Men’s grooming kits are a fabulous idea for travel and overnight stays. They compromise all the shaving essentials, along with clippers and tweezers that help keep the general appearance immaculate. This one from Menkind is a snip at less than £25, making it a great gift idea too.

Something to read.

It’s always a good idea to have some reading material in your bag, for those moments when you have a spare 5 minutes to pass.  Andrew Marr is always a brilliant read, so I would recommend ‘A History of the World’ which is illuminating and fascinating in equal measures.
