Selfridges – New Season Picks, including some of Duchess Kate’s favourite designers

With Christmas now just a distant memory, it seems the time is right to look at what the designers have in store for us for these early days of 2013 (and doesn’t it still feel strange to be typing that?).

A trip to Selfridges shows that there is a lot to savour from some of our favourite designers.  Erdem continues the quest for the perfect lace dress with the beautiful cappuccino lace of the Anna dress, whilst elsewhere there is an awful lot of blue to enjoy, in all shades, from the bright and vibrant, to the most powdery pastel shades.

And then there are the new season bags. I have already expressed my love for Sophie Hulme with the stunning embossed metal bag I nominated as my bag of the month for November Bag servant, and now there is the cutest little plate satchel that is making me long for Christmas all over again. The Jil Sander bag is meant to be for the men, but I think that bag is far too good to just be wasted on the other half using it for sandwiches and train tickets.

Have the perfect first weekend of 2013 by treating yourself to something really special, it is the only way to shift that early January malaise!

Debenhams gives you your own capsule Duchess Kate wardrobe this season

The Duchess of Cambridge has become one of the world’s leading style icons in the year since her wedding to Prince William. She rarely puts a foot wrong stylewise, and whilst some have accused her of being a little boring in her style choices, the truth is that she just chooses pieces that have a classic look that she can revisit and revamp again and again. Her look is sophisticated, flawless and elegant. No wonder everything that she wears proves to be an instant sell out, and that the world’s leading designers are now flocking to dress her. For her recent tour, that has included Alexander McQueen, Prabal Gurung, Mulberry, Jonathan Saunders, Jenny Packham and Erdem amongst others, almost a role call for the recent British and New York fashion weeks.

Debenhams seems to have recognised that this Kate effect is something hypnotic to so many women, and have taken inspiration in their latest ranges. There are elements of Kate’s evening looks, daytime looks and outdoor wear, and in Jenny Packham they have one of Kate’s key designers on board producing Duchess worthy looks for her No1 collection.

Duchess Kate – More Singapore looks to Savour

I have to say just how much I am enjoying the fashion odyssey currently being undertaken by the Duchess of Cambridge has she makes her way around Singapore. There have been no fashion recycled pieces yet, and with up to three changes of dress in a day, this makes exiting viewing for Kate watchers everywhere. The designer names she has worn so far are almost a who’s who of fashion at this moment, Jenny Packham, Prabal Gurung, Erdem, Alexander McQueen and Raoul have all been showcased to great effect, as the Duchess breezes through the unenviable task of looking stylish and keeping cool in very balmy conditions. (I went to Singapore and couldn’t stop the hair sticking to my head, so much Kudos to Kate for looking so effortlessly beautiful so far).

The first look yesterday was one of my favourite Kate pieces. A gorgeous broderie anglais design from Alexander McQueen, this 1950s belted dress utilized a cotton design and looked both elegant and crisp. My one moan would be the shoes – the navy wedges are great and probably very comfortable, but I think they look a bit heavy for this look -I would’ve love some nude strappy sandals instead.

You can get broderie anglais pieces quite cheaply now in the end of summer sales, and it is well worth picking up pieces as this is a timeless look that comes out of the wardrobe every summer. If you are going on a late holiday, just imagine this crisp, pure look against sunkissed skin – absolutely perfect!

MADEMOISELLE DRESS

Kate’s 2nd look yesterday was from rising international label Raoul. This was a gorgeous, floaty blouse and skirt in a retro style print that had great flashes of orange running through it.  The skirt had a slight pleat detail and again this seemed the perfect choice for the warm weather conditions – light as a feather and floaty. Both pieces were available on Matches, but as usual with anything Kate wears, they have now sold out!

Kate’s final look yesterday was a watered silk lined, pleated dress from Erdem. Again this dress had a decidedly oriental print, this time in soft blues, greys and occasional splashes of coral. I particularly loved the sleeve detail, which was semi sheer, and seemed to have been added to the original design of this dress (The Meryl) especially for Kate.

I’m totally loving Kate’s wardrobe at the moment, and looking forward to seeing what each new day brings.
