John Lewis Secret Santa
I’m totally thrilled to say that I am going to be taking part in the John Lewis bloggers Secret Santa this month. As a lover of anything and everything to do with Christmas, this was one project that I could never refuse, especially as it was in conjunction with John Lewis, the King of the Christmas Ad Campaign. This will be my second secret Santa project, but the first in about eight years. My first took place when I was working as a teacher and was a little bit of a disappointment. Almost all the people involved played it very safe, nearly everyone got a bottle of wine. There was…

New season trends ‘Boy meets Lady’
As August starts, and the glorious weather inevitably reverts to form, it is also inevitable that I start to look to the new season trends. August is, after all, the month when magazines pull out the big guns in the form of ‘The September Issue’, and we all start to think about what we will be wearing in Autumn, whether we want to or not. One of the trends I really love is the one that John Lewis have cleverly titled ‘Boy meets Lady’. This season there is a definite feminine feel to our wardrobes, but one that has a masculine edge to it. Ladylike skirts are de-prettified with the…

Frederiksberg from White Stuff
We may be in the Middle of Summer, (and something that resembles Monsoon season at the moment) but the first Autumn drops are already starting to appear in shops and online. One of my favourite of the new collections is from High Street independent White Stuff. White Stuff have embraced the coming of Autumn with their first Autumn collection. ‘Frederiksberg’. This is a collection inspired by Scandinavian prints and textiles, but that doesn’t mean that you are going to be walking around resembling an Ikea sofa. Eather, there are graphic prints, florals and butterflies on graphic paper backgrounds and large, Orla Kiely style polka dot prints on tops with cute…

Alexa Chung style in Clarks Originals
If I had to pick my favourite shoe era, it would probably be the 1970s. I am kind of besotted by the idea of chunky wooden platforms, Scholl style sandals and any other summer shoes that are far removed from the Gladiator, strappy style sandals we live in today. And all this probably explains why I am such a fan of Clarks Originals. Alexa Chung is another lady who seems to be at home in the sort of sandals I remember wearing as a little girl. Her feet are constantly adorned with the sensible strapped flat sandals that make you think of scuffed knees and grass stains, and yet just…

Duchess Kate drives us dotty with Dalmatian prints
Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge officially bowed out of the public eye last week, and showed her own inimitable style right up to the end. Looking absolutely beautiful and, yes it is a cliché, but totally glowing, the Duchess again returned to her beloved High Street in a fabulous Dalmatian printed coat from Hobbs, causing the inevitable sell out. The Dalmatian Mac from Hobbs was another smart choice for the Duchess. The shape was again reminiscent of the early 1960s boxy styles favoured by Jackie Kennedy, something that Kate has worn a lot during her third trimester, and again was a simple, but totally elegant look lifted by the…
