Celebrity style picks – featuring Rihanna, Kate Middleton and Alex Jones

Somebody told me this week that Fashion-Mommy is probably best known for the celebrity get the look posts, so as I am spending a rare Saturday night in, and I know that this won’t happen for at least another month,  I would enjoy passing on a few more celebrity style spots for those who are intent on getting a little bit of celebrity sparkle.

First up is Alex Jones. I really like Alex Jones on the one show. She always looks glamorous and has a great down to Earth charm that makes you forget that Christine Bleakley ever presented the show. This month she has been wearing some very eye-catching blouses that have come courtesy of Dahlia. The Natalie is available now for £45, whilst the Angela will be available next month.

Next up we have some more of that Kate effect. Selfridges have this week relaunched the classic Issa dress as worn for Kate on the day her engagement was announced, but this time the dress is in a gorgeous turquoise colour that is just perfect for Spring.

BHS currently has an online promotion offering 20% off their bridal collection. This includes the Rose lace long-sleeved bridal dress that has been inspired by Kate’s Sarah Burton gown.

You can still get a Pippa inspired bridesmaids dress too, with the Charlotte Ivory cowl neck dress still available in most sizes.

Rihanna has been strutting around LA showing off the best of the British High Street, wearing a Very Short pair of distressed denim hotpants from non other than Miss Selfridge. These are probably best not attempted unless you have Rihanna’s endless legs.

My favourite TOWIE star, Lydia Bright, is well-known as a fan of Miss Selfridge and has also recently been spotted  wearing one of their wonderful blouses, the cream lace blouse.

Lana Del Rey is definitely one of my style crushes at the moment, with her polished Hollywood vintage glamour style. Yet she is not averse to doing a bit of High Street shopping. She was recently snapped wearing a lovely pair of vintage style Mary Janes in a great nude shade from Office. These are a snip at £65.

Duchess of Cambridge – More ways to get the look!

I am a huge fan of the Duchess of Cambridge, and when browsing on websites I often find myself saying “doesn’t that look like the dress Kate wore for…” Kate’s  style influence seems to be everywhere, from the longer sleeves, more ladylike looks, popularity for the shades of deep red and blue, and an abundance of wrap dresses. Here is a quick look at some of the Kate lookalikes I have found recently, along with a link in case you decide to treat yourself..after all, it is the weekend! Doesn’t that look like Kate’s Issa dress? Remember the purple Issa dress that Kate wore on her tour of Canada…then look at this for a dead ringer. Can you believe this comes from Bon Marche, a high street chain that has recently upped its game with some pretty stylish Autumn additions. The shade is slightly deeper, more Magenta than purple, but still a pretty stylish lookalike.

Doesn’t that look like Kate’s wedding dress? There have been numerous copies of Kate’s Sarah Burton designed wedding dress, but unless you are planning on getting married yourself there will not be many who would copy that look. But there are a whole host of dresses that have keyed into the key themes of lace and satin bodices, with full skirts. And some have been subverted with black the shade of choice, rather than white or ivory. I really like this Debut dress from Debenhams which definitely has a Kate feel.

Doesn’t that look like the Beulah London Dress?

The Beulah London red evening dress was a welcome sight for Kate watchers, as it signified another evening gown to view. This was a very retro feeling dress, complete with 1970s style wrap effect and billowing sleeves. There are so many versions of this sort of dress on the market at the moment, and monsoon has three of the best in a variety of colours.

Duchess of Cambridge is elegant in Amanda Wakeley

The Duchess of Cambridge made a welcome return to the public stage todaywhen she and Prince William made a visit to the Royal Marsden hospital where they opened a new children’s cancer unit.

Kate was wearing a designer who seems to have become a royal favourite, Amanda Wakeley, and looked as elegant as ever in an oatmeal long-sleeved shift dress, described as ‘sculpted felt’. She wore this with her favourite LK Bennett nude court shoes and with her hair soft and flowing.

I know the fashionista press may again have problems with this look, but Kate was spending time with parents and children who were going to be using this unit, so flamboyance and bright, block, colours just weren’t appropriate for the order of the day. The understated colour, simple design and elegant feel of this dress helped to  make this perfect, a well thought out outfit that reminded me of the sorts of things worn by the super stylish Carla Bruni.

Kate’s dress is still available to buy from amandawakeley.com for £450. If this stretches the budget too much, you could take a look at the Reiss Lola, which is the updated version of the Shola, the dress Kate wore when she met the Obamas. Or maybe just invest in one of the raft of Kate dresses that are available on the High Street and online this season. Here are just a few of them, but you can find more at dorothyperkins.com, Hobbs and next.co.uk.
