Louis Vuitton channels Elizabeth Taylor for the new season

Flicking through my September Issue of Vogue, I found that I just kept turning the pages back to look at the stunning images from the Louis Vuitton Autumn/Winter 2013 campaign. Made up of stunning photographs showing the likes of Karen Elson and Gisele Bundchen, almost unrecognisable in black wigs. The models are clad in sensible winter coats being worn over the wispiest of silk slips and shifts, and my mind was drawn to one of the ultimate style icons of the 20th century in two of her most famous, and also controversial, roles.

The looks from this collection, as photographed by Steven Meisel, are pure Elizabeth Taylor at the height of her 1950s beauty. Specifically they draw to mind two films where she made the slinkiest of undergarments, the shift, into an item of immense sensuality and style. In ‘Cat on a hot tin roof’ Maggie the Cat, as portrayed by Liz, spends much of her time in a white silk slip whilst trying to seduce her husband. Then, in the 1960 film Butterfield 8, her character Gloria, a high class call girl, again seems to live in a uniform of champagne coloured shifts and heels, teamed with more champagne, this time in the liquid form. Occasionally she throws on a luxurious coat, but underneath it she is wearing…well, not a lot if we’re being honest.

The images of Liz playing bad girls in delicate shifts drip glamour and decadence, and the photographs by Meisel are an almost haunting echo.

This season you could attempt the look for yourself with some seriously sexy chemises from Boux Avenue which you may decide to keep for the privacy of the bedroom, or may well wear whilst dancing on a table on a Saturday night. For the not so brave,  Dorothy Perkins has a range of silky camisoles in a range of jewel colours, perfect for under a serious business suit for work, or under a chunky knit cardigan for a winter boho look.

Trend of the season – Louis Vuitton Checkerboard collection

It was a collection that I thought was cute on the catwalk (or escalators in actual fact), but wasn’t really sure who would wear it in real life. The answer proved to be ‘everybody!’. Marc Jacobs Spring/Summer collection for Louis Vuitton 2013 has proved to be one of the most popular collections ever in terms of celebrity patronage. Everyone, and I mean everyone, seems to have been spotted wearing at least one of the pieces from the range.

The collection is an intoxicating mixture of 1960s geometric design and block colour. Think Pierre Cardin, Paco Rabanne and Peggy Moffat modelling and you get the general picture of what this collection brings to 2013. And it all works – something that seems so based in the design and colour of the swinging sixties has proved to be ultra modern and stylish in 2013. Miranda Kerr, Kirsten Dunst, Kristen Stewart, Kerry Washington, Jessica Alba, Hailee Steinfeld, Bereneice Bejo and Juno Temple are just some of the famous ladies who have worn and loved this unusual range. In addition, model Lindsey Wixson looked just amazing in the green version on the cover of Japanese Vogue, whilst Fan BingBing went against the grain in a block yellow dress from the collection.

Getting set for Summer with TK Maxx

With temperatures in the UK set to eclipse those in Ibiza this week, now is definitely the time to be sorting out that Summer Wardrobe. And a key part of that has to be sunglasses. What fashionista would be seen without a pair of glamorous sunnies, whether it be day or night, a Red Carpet event or a photocall?

This season, fab High Street outlet TK Maxx has an amazing range of designer sunglasses available. Thankfully these come without the enormous price tag often attached to these covetable accessories. They have hot designer ranges including Valentino, Marc  Jacobs and lust-haves from the gorgeous Mr Tom Ford himself, with styles that range from the cute and quirky to ultra Hollywood glamour.

The prices are amazing, starting at £12.99. So whether you need you shades for relaxing poolside, driving on sun blazed roads, or merely for posing in the park, TK Maxx needs to be you starting point when it comes to selecting a pair of sunnies. Here are a few of my top picks for getting that superstar style this season.

Marc Jacobs

Famed for his love of the quirky and unique (who can forget Victoria Beckham stuck in an oversized paper bag, Marc Jacobs shades score highly on the fashion credibility rating. With stars like Gwen Stefani, Jessica Biel and Jessica Simpson fans of the range, you won’t believe that you can get the same looks from TK Maxx for £24.99!

Everyone from Kate Moss to Victoria Beckham has been photographed wearing Tom Ford sunglasses, and now you can get the look too, but don’t  be surprised if you find paparazzi following you wondering ‘Who’s that Girl?’
