Duchess of Cambridge – a round-up of recent looks

Slowly but surely, Duchess Kate is heading back towards her public duties, and she’s doing it in the sort of style she has made her trademark. Beautiful gowns, wardrobe favourites that we have seen before and a new, soft hairstyle that is slightly reminiscent of ringlets, Kate shows why she is fully deserving of her nomination for Style Icon at this year’s British Style Awards.

One of my favourite Kate looks from this year has to be the elegant midnight blue dress by Jenny Packham. Kate wore this higher up on the shoulders than the dress was worn on the catwalk, making this a more refined, ladylike look. The shade of blue was suitably dramatic, and with minimal accessories, this was a total style smash from head to toe.

Jenny Packham style at Debenhams

Jenny Packham is definitely having a moment, with celebrity fans including Kate Middleton, Angelina Jolie and Taylor Swift. Of course, for those who want to achieve the effortless beauty of the Jenny Packham look without the designer price-tag, the No1 by Jenny Packham collection by Debenhams is a fab way to get the look. The Red shoes with diamante detail are a particularly amazing find.

This week Kate wore a brilliant poppy red coat to lend support to the poppy appeal. The coat is an old favourite of Kate’s , a past season classic from LK Bennett. I love this coat for the sophistication of the belted effect, and the 1970s style length, but most of all for the colour.  Pink may be this year’s hottest shade, but for wardrobe longevity I would plump for red every time.

On a side note, I was really annoyed by the emphasis placed on a few grey hairs that Kate seems to be showing. She’s just had a baby and has very dark locks – my comment on this would be – So What!

Today Kate made a suitably sombre appearance in Whitehall for the annual Remembrance Day Service in London. The exquisite 1950s style coat she wore was the Noa piece from Alice Temperley, another Kate favourite.  The coat, which has a full skirt and satin panel detail on the front, was a chic choice and looked lovely teamed with a Lock and Co hat.

Kate looks so beautiful in teal Jenny Packham

Ok – I admit it, this may be my favourite Duchess of Cambridge look ever. I said in a post I published about Jenny Packham yesterday that I felt she had been responsible for Kate’s most successful evening look ever, the shimmering pink dress that the Duchess had worn to the Ark event last June,  but I actually think, for sheer beauty, this teal dream of a dress beats it.

Kate and Wills were attending a concert at the Royal Albert Hall to celebrate the UK Olympic team, and I don’t think she could’ve chosen a more  perfect, and on trend dress. This lace and chiffon confection had a classical Greek style that celebrated the origins of the Olympics. And with pleats, waist embellishment and that so on trend lace back, this ticked all the boxes for those who want Kate to be more ‘fashion’.Kate also changed her hairstyle, again maybe in response to those who wish to see her hair in a more elegant style.  This chignon has its roots in the styles worn by Victorian and Edwardian regal ladies and did look very beautiful and elegant. It also focused all attention on the lace and button detail of the back of the dress, Kate’s usual long locks would have spoiled this dramatic look.

This dress is a Jenny Packham classic. Floaty, with a pleated skirt and waist embellishment, with tiny cap sleeves, this has all the features that Jenny has put into her High Street collaboration with Debenhams. I was shocked to see how close those similarities were. Granted, non of the luscious lace back detail, but the pleats, and beading work are all there.

No1 Jenny Packham Launches at Debenhams

Jenny Packham is one of the most important designers in the UK today. A favourite of celebrities like Angelina Jolie,Kiera Knightley, and the Duchess of Cambridge of course, Jenny is at the forefront of a move to bring glamour and beauty back to fashion.  The glorious pink shimmering dress that Kate wore for the ARK evening was a Jenny Packham dress, and many believe this has been Kate’s finest fashion moment – she looked so beautiful in what was an utterly exquisite dress.

So it is very exciting that Jenny Packham has become the latest High Profile British fashion name to collaborate with High Street giant Debenhams. A stunning new collection of cocktail and evening dresses, little girls dresses and sumptuous accessories are being launched in store and online under the name No1 Jenny Packham. This is going to be your go to collection for party wear, occasion wear and evening wear. It is fabulous.

Jenny Packham says;-

“As a young girl I was regularly abandoned in Debenhams Southampton whilst my parents disappeared to search for the latest Teasmade or some other ‘must have’ electrical appliance. During this time I lost myself in the rails of 70’s polyester and dreamt of a life in fashion. Therefore it is only natural that I have chosen Debenhams to launch my first High Street collection. My aim always is to design styles that create glamour and excitement whether it is for the red carpet or a teenage prom. My collaboration with Debenhams is a great opportunity for me to offer my signature style at an attainable price”.

Here are some of the highlights of a truly special collection. Some are already available in store, with other pieces coming later in the season.
