Guerlain launch La Petite Robe Noire exclusively in Selfridges

Is there any item of clothing more iconic than the little black dress? From Audrey Hepburn in Givenchy eating her breakfast outside Tiffany’s, to an off-duty Marilyn Monroe in Norman Norell, or Princess Diana taking revenge in a whisp of black chiffon, the black dress is able to flatter the wearer whilst seducing everyone else with its allure.

So it is a wonder that it has taken so long to create the essence of the little black dress in a fragrance. But now step forward Guerlain. The legendary perfumer’s created the perfect fragrance called ‘The Little black dress’ as an exclusive fragrance back in 2009 . ‘La Petite Robe Noire’, to give its French name, was originally available only to Guerlain’s most loyal clientele. ‘ . But now, in 2012,  we can all find out exactly what the fuss is about as the seductive new version has hit Selfridges exclusively.  And I have to say ‘The Little black dress’ is both gorgeously fragranced and gloriously bottled.

For me, the overwhelming scent was the rather exotic black cherry. This gives the perfume an intoxicating aura that means this is something you would wear for an evening, or special occasion – this is not a scent for everyday. There is also an undertone of rose, but this is not cloying, sickly or old ladyish as rosey smells can be – instead it is more like a subtle essence that adds to the warmth of the fragrance. Other key notes include tonka beans, Iris, vanilla and patchouli, blended to create a glamorous, grown up fragrance that lingers in the memory.

Tallulah Love – lingerie indulgence

At the recent CiCi press launch I was fortunate to meet the lovely Michelle Taylor and be introduced to her brand, Tallulah Love, a luxurious range of lingerie.

I was truly impressed with what is an exquisite collection. But this should really have come as no surprise, Michelle has an extensive background in underwear design that includes a stint at M&S, and designer for White Label lingerie at Playboy. Clearly this is a women who knows her undies! Since the launch of Tallulah  love in Paris in 2010, , Michelle has seen her company become one of the fastest growing luxury lingerie companies to come out of  the industry ion decades.

This is covetable and impressive collection. Using the finest silk and European lace,  Michelle has created a stunning collection of lingerie that has a vintage feel, whilst retaining a contemporary edge. The attention to detail is immense, from the silk lining of bras and knickers, to the use of  french Chantilly lace and the silk ribbons that run  through the bra straps, this is the sort of underwear that cries out to be seen!

Royal Welcome from Tallulah Love

Sure to be one of the most popular pieces from the new collection will be ‘Royal Welcome’ which will tie in nicely with our obsession of all things Kate.  Michelle told me how she designed this collection before the engagement had been announced, inspired by the elegant Miss Middleton. It is absolutely gorgeous –  with hand drawn print showing the Tallulah Love logo and ‘Show Some Love’ slogan. I love the black lace edging, which truly makes it fit for a Duchess.

Dolce Vita by Tallulah Love

Dolce Vita is another very special collection. This is designed with the sexy images of 1950s Italy in mind – think the spaghetti fed curves of Sophia Loren and Gina Lollobrigida. The teal silk and aqua mesh has a really fresh feel to it, whilst I love the boy short design of the pants. Just made to show off your curves to their best advantage.

I loved the Tallulah Love collection, especially all the small features that would make purchasing this lingerie a real treat. All items are adorned with the retro candy stripped Tallulah Love tags, and come in a stunning box. Michelle told me it was inspired by beautiful Champagne truffle  boxes, and would make these a  gift that would require no further wrapping.

Style Icon of the Month July – Olivia Palermo

To be honest, with her effortless chic, Olivia Palermo could be the style icon of any month. But in July, Olivia really showed her style credentials as she showcased a whole range of stunning looks. Who else could attend the Giambattista Valli show wearing a Topshop dress, and still outshine everyone else in the room? Olivia did this in July,  and a whole lot more.

I love everything about Olivia’s style. She is always immaculately groomed, never a hair out-of-place for this girl. Her clothes always look effortless, she will wear a simple shirt and maxi skirt for a film premiere and make it look like haute couture. She is never matchy- matchy, sometimes the bag or shoes don’t entirely match the outfit, but the end effect is always perfect. She is a huge fan of the High Street, wearing an array of Topshop and Zara, as well as Mango, who she fronted a campaign for.

I was once in the company of PR extraordinaire Sarah Byworth, who is a good friend of Olivia. She told me that Olivia has a knack of making any outfit look like the most amazing thing you have ever seen, and she does it usually without the help of a stylist. Surely that is the sign of a true style icon?
