Evans – My favourite pieces perfect for Spring

Spring is (hopefully) just around the corner, so I am going to start a virtual trip around some of my favourite stores, picking out my most lusted after pieces on the way. My first stop is Evans. The new Clements Ribeiro collection isn’t in store just yet, but Evans has launched two new collections recently, Scarlett and Jo (which I love and has already made appearances on this blog) and this week it launched Silk Shore, a collection of pretty casual pieces in denim blue and coral.

In addition to this, the regular collection has some gorgeous pieces, one of my faves being the super cute floral denim pencil skirt. I think this is such a versatile piece, one that could be dressed up or down. And the green lace top, in this years patone colour, is a total wardrobe must have.

Searching for the Perfect Spring Dress

For a few days at the end of last week, and the beginning of this, I got that Spring feeling. The sun was shining and the sky was blue. I was wearing a blazer rather than a heavy overcoat, and I had started to think about Summer, planning a holiday, musing about getting some tickets for a festival (I really fancy going to the Isle of Wight festival this year and combining it with a bit of a holiday for Hubby and Joe too),  and generally imagining myself spending copious amounts of time on a sun lounger drinking Pimms!

I also started thinking about my wardrobe too, and in particular, dresses. Everyone who knows me knows that dresses are my apparel of choice, even when I’m having a lazy day at home. But it has to be said that some of my dresses have seen better days, getting that bobbly cotton look that comes from spinning around in the washing machine too many times. So I’ve been spending some time choosing dresses that I would love to add to my wardrobe this spring, adding them to online baskets, and then pondering on it overnight.

Here are my current faves.

Duchess Kate rocks a wrap dress

The Duchess of Cambridge made a welcome return yesterday, as the latest personal criticism, this time from Hilary Mantel and Vivienne Westwood continued to  make news. Booker prize winner Mantel made a scathing attack on the Duchess, who she basically described as dead behind the eyes, whilst Vivienne Westwood contradicted the rest of the fashion press by saying that Kate did not recycle her wardrobe enough. Poor Kate remained silent in the face of both attacks, and somehow seemed all the classier for this.

Kate looked tanned and healthy for the engagement, a visit to Hope House, in London. She was wearing an ultra flattering wrap dress from Max Mara which showed off her growing baby bump. This was teamed with Episode shoes. Kate’s dress was from 2011, but there are some fantastic Max Mara designs available on the House of Fraser site at present that would also be perfect for the Duchess, many of them currently in the sale.

I think Kate chose really wisely in opting for the classic wrap style dress. This style, designed by the legendary Diane Von Furstenberg in the early 1970s, is a very comfortable maternity style, and one which you can continue to wear as the ‘bump’ grows, tying the sashes comfortably above the bump and utlising the stretchy fabric to accommodate an ever growing baby. Of course, wrap dresses are also perfect for those who have curves, with the deep v neckline perfect for showing off a great bustline.
