The Bletchley Circle – Loving Millie and her glamour
I’m a bit of a latecomer to The Bletchley Circle, I sky +d it so I could watch ‘Good Cop’ and shamelessly drool over Warren Brown. But I’ve watched two episodes this weekend, and have found myself falling in love with the fabulous glamour and style of Millie, played by the wonderful Rachael Stirling. The Bletchley Circle is set in the early 1950s, but forget about any Marilyn Monroe/Grace Kelly sort of 1950s glamour. This is Austerity Britain, a time when ration books were still de rigueur and when you found glamour and elegance where you could. Millie is a slightly bohemian character, all auburn hair and long swishing headscarves.…

The return of Paloma Faith
I am so pleased about the return of Paloma Faith, the quirkiest Goddess of music. I’m a huge fan of her music, love her live performances and her mad as a box of frogs persona, and I totally adore her off-the-wall personal style which amazes, amuses and grabs admiration in equal measures. In an era of stylists and perfection, Paloma offers something unique to the world of fashion. In many ways she is the natural heir to Isabella Blow’s throne, at the moment nobody can rock a fascinating (and sometimes bizarre) hat like Paloma can. She also uses the costumes of her previous careers in burlesque and as a magician’s…

Alexa Chung Style at A/wear
Alexa Chung is an undoubted style icon. Twice awarded British Style Icon at the UK Style awards, she avoids overtly sexy looks, instead citing 60s style icons Marianne Faithfull, Jayne Birkin and Penelope Tree as influences. Short dresses are toned down with chunky boots and quirky flat shoes, hair is worn barely styled, hanging loose or in simple loose ponytails and make-up is also of the barely there variety, with the exception of the smokey eyes. She is someone who looks chic whilst appearing not to try too hard. A/wear have used a lot of Alexa influence in their latest range of dresses. The great news is that the A/Wear…

Style Icon of the month – Lana Del Rey
Maybe she is a recreation, with newly inflated lips and a retro image. Frankly I don’t care. She has the most amazing voice and in Video Games, one of the best songs and videos of the year. She also has truly incredible personal style. I am of course talking about Lana Del Rey, who is my style icon for the month of November. Lana has an old-fashioned film starlet feel. Huge eyes and the most talked about lips of the moment are teamed with Brigitte Bardot/Claudia Cardinale lustrous hair. And then there’s the clothes. Lana describes herself as a ‘gangsta Nancy Sinatra’ and could well be her best judge. Her…
