Collarless Faux Fur Pocket Coat from Simply Be

It is one of those strange paradoxes that when the weather starts to turn colder, we say we want to be cuddled up warm inside, and yet spend even more time in the great outdoors. This week is a case in point. So far we’ve spent time trick or treating with our kids, standing around a bonfire and watching fireworks, and tomorrow I’ll be standing on the freezing cold touchline as the temperature is set to plummet.

In the next few weeks, the Christmas market will be arriving in Birmingham, and I’ve got a trip planned to Lincoln to walk around yet another Christmas market, drinking mulled wine and trying to get warm in the freezing cold. Can you see what I’m getting at. We ought to be hibernating, or migrating like the birds, but we’re out and about and totally embracing it. And that is why we need a good coat.

Simply Be has a fantastic range of Women’s coats this season, and they asked me to choose something from their current collection to showcase my style. I love coats, but I just struggle with wearing sensible, practical, waterproof coats, even on the muddy touchlines, or watching my beloved WBA. I like a coat to be an extension of my own style, something that will look just as great with a dress as it would with skinny jeans. The Collarless Faux Fur Pocket Coat is basically, my perfect coat.

This coat really is a throw-on collarless coat, but with a difference.  Throw on designs are often seen as casual, but this has the feel of a late 1950s, early 1960s coat – you can imagine Jackie Kennedy, or Doris Day in Pillow Talk throwing it on. It has no buttons, it is an edge-to-edge design with gorgeous tonal faux fur pockets which just add to the slightly retro, luxurious feel. Fully lined, this is a mini length which does make it perfect to wear over trousers as well as a dress, and the mid grey colour is just a lovely alternative to black. I am totally in love with this coat and thought I would show you two ways I have worn it so far.

Bonfire Night Outfit Challenge with Next

Remember, Remember the 5th of November. With Halloween out of the way, the next event on the Autumn calendar is Bonfire Night, which is taking place this Saturday. With the mercury now starting to plummet in the thermometers, we will all need to be wrapped up snug and warm in order to enjoy those fireworks, but luckily, there are some gorgeous Winter pieces now in stores to ensure that this will be an easy task.

Next are currently challenging bloggers to put an outfit together featuring the 5 essential pieces that they would love to wear on November the 5th, so although I will be attending a Bonfire on November 4th, I decided to show you the sort of outfit I will wear. The outfit is warm and cosy, but would also work well if you watch the fireworks, and then make your way to a clubhouse or pub for a hot toddy or two.

I chose a palette that could be called 50 shades of grey, but with non of the smut, thank you very much! The belted coat is stylish, but could also be worn with the belt open, if you felt too warm when you got close to the fire. The comfort skinny jeans would offer just that, and worn with the cashmere jumper with the back cutout, this would be very warm and cosy, but again, keep a statement necklace in your handbag, add some lippy and you are totally ready for the bar.

The boots add a slight rock chick edge, but in leather you will be able to brave all weathers and muddy fields, whilst a hat is both a cute and practical option. It will keep out the cold and wind, but will also give you the slight 1970s, Ali MacGraw look that can only come with a beanie.

I really love this look that I think is totally appropriate, but is still a nod to the style I like. After bonfire night, it would also work for Sunday morning football practice.

If you are going to a bonfire this weekend, have fun and stay safe.

Boden Dresses and Coats – Autumn Perfect

My latest Autumn Fashion focus is looking at a British brand that is always seriously stylish. Boden is a must visit destination if you are looking for dresses that will suit your everyday and work wear needs. Each season they create a collection that is both covetable, but totally practical and wearable, and their dresses are always standouts from the collection. Autumn/Winter 2016 is no exception, with a special mention also needed for the beautiful coats that are also highly lust-worthy.

Boden is so clever when it comes to dresses as they seem to understand exactly what women need when it comes to a day dress. These are dresses that we will wear for work, for every day, for lunch dates, for shopping, for the school run, so they need to be warm and practical as well as stylish. We want dresses that have stretch, that have sleeves, but we also want them to look great, and to come in a range of colours so that our wardrobe doesn’t look like one never ending stretch of black. Boden addresses all of this, but adds retro touches that make some of their dresses look like they are beautifully curated pieces from the 1950s and 1960s.

My current faves are the Octavia dress which is simply stunning, and the Barbara Ponte dress which reminds me of a Stella McCartney design that has been worn by the Duchess of Cambridge. For the next two days you are also able to get 20% off all dresses, hence the reduced price point I have indicted. With one eye towards Winter and the falling temperatures, I have also added my five favourite coats to the post, with the showstopper being that navy suede beauty.

Do you ever buy from Boden? Do you have a fave dress or coat from the offering below?
