Pink Clove Black Floral Printed Wrap Dress

A wrap dress is a wardrobe staple that no respectable closet should ever be without. Suitable for wearing for work and for more dressy occasions, the wrap dress has been practical, versatile and stylish ever since the remarkable Diane Von Furstenberg first designed her eponymous printed version in the early 1970s.

Plus size range Pink Clove has made the wrap dress one of the mainstays of its collections, adding at least one new design each season. I was recently sent the gorgeous black floral printed wrap dress to review, and have to say it is one of the most comfortable and easiest dresses that I have ever worn.

Featuring an oriental style floral design in pink and blue shades on a black background, the print on this dress is both striking and pretty. The wrap style is faux, so although the skirt has a an overlapping front detail, it is not likely to come open, which can be more of a problem with traditional wrap styles. The waist is elasticated, so gives you a natural shape, whilst the attractive neckline is very flattering for those with a larger bust. Of course, the most fabulous thing about this is the stretch, the addition of 4% elastane means you can wear this out for a meal, and eat copious amounts of pudding without worrying about straining those seams.

DSCN1340[1]I love how easy this dress is to wear. The stretch means it retains its shape even if you are playing on the floor with your little one, and it has the perfect sleeves for those who are not happy with the upper arm area. I love that this dress is warm too, and think it would look great with a black, or bright coloured blazer worn over it. I wore it with very simple jewellery in silver, and black shoe-boots, and felt really comfortable in this.

Pink Clove have an amazing range that is well worth checking out if you are size 16-32. The designs are stylish and fresh, and the range is really affordable too.

Reviewed – Eden Wrap Front dress from Boohoo

Last month I got very excited when I wrote about the launch of the new plus size range from Boohoo.com. I was impressed by the images of fashion-forward looks with purse friendly price tags, offering something new and fresh to the plus size market place. I reviewed the beautiful Samantha lace top before Christmas after I was kindly sent a parcel of beautiful items from Boohoo (you can check out that review here). Now I can bring you my second review, this time of the Eden Wrap front dress.

The Eden dress is a classic faux wrap style in the most gorgeous cobalt blue. It is a great mixture of viscose and acrylic, which means it is soft and stretchy. It has a curved hemline that sexy without being overtly revealing, and has a gentle elastication to create a natural waistband.

I wore this dress on New Years Eve when I went for a meal with my family – the elastication was perfect for over-indulging! Although the dress does have that elasticated waistband, I decided to add a belt to further enhance this part of the dress. I also used the faux wrap front to add a gorgeous necklace in a similar shade of blue.

I was really impressed with this dress, the fit was great, and I liked the fact that the front wrap detail did not gape. I often find I need to add a vest under wrap dresses when they reveal too much cleavage, but this did not spill open or gape, and instead kept my bust in place. The same was true of the hemline, which didn’t flap open.

The range from Boohoo is proving to be really impressive and extremely wearable. There are a couple of new pieces I have my eye on which I’ve featured below.

Duchess Kate rocks a wrap dress

The Duchess of Cambridge made a welcome return yesterday, as the latest personal criticism, this time from Hilary Mantel and Vivienne Westwood continued to  make news. Booker prize winner Mantel made a scathing attack on the Duchess, who she basically described as dead behind the eyes, whilst Vivienne Westwood contradicted the rest of the fashion press by saying that Kate did not recycle her wardrobe enough. Poor Kate remained silent in the face of both attacks, and somehow seemed all the classier for this.

Kate looked tanned and healthy for the engagement, a visit to Hope House, in London. She was wearing an ultra flattering wrap dress from Max Mara which showed off her growing baby bump. This was teamed with Episode shoes. Kate’s dress was from 2011, but there are some fantastic Max Mara designs available on the House of Fraser site at present that would also be perfect for the Duchess, many of them currently in the sale.

I think Kate chose really wisely in opting for the classic wrap style dress. This style, designed by the legendary Diane Von Furstenberg in the early 1970s, is a very comfortable maternity style, and one which you can continue to wear as the ‘bump’ grows, tying the sashes comfortably above the bump and utlising the stretchy fabric to accommodate an ever growing baby. Of course, wrap dresses are also perfect for those who have curves, with the deep v neckline perfect for showing off a great bustline.
