Visiting Parks Art Deco Cafe in Blackpool

I spent last weekend in one of my favourite places when it comes to Art Deco by the sea, Blackpool. As ever, I was walking around with my camera in one hand, looking up to find new examples of deco that I hadn’t seen before, and as usual, I found lots of examples (it really is full of them – see previous post here). But it was a chance glance at an advert on a passing tram that drew my attention to a stunning piece of Art Deco that takes pride of place in Stanley ParkParks Art Deco Cafe.

The Parks Art Deco cafe is frankly stunning. A majestic art deco building set in beautiful Stanley Park, the cafe was built in 1926 and is grade two listed. It is owned by Blackpool council and is fully licensed, although as we went for breakfast we didn’t indulge in the glorious jugs of Pimms they had advertised. There is seating both indoors and outdoors facing the Italian gardens, so wherever you choose to sit you certainly have a room with a view.

We choose to sit inside to soak up the stunning art deco period features. The building has operated as a cafe since the 1920’s so it feels authentic, with original ceilings and a magnificent parquet floor. Modern features, like the menus, tables and chairs are fit in with the theme so that you feel like you’re taking lunch in an episode of Poirot – it is simply beautiful and feels like a trip back in time.

There is counter service for drinks and ordering food, and there is a wide range of both available. The waiting staff are attentive, you will not be staring at an empty plate for long, and hot food is delivered quickly and efficiently. The quality of the food is fantastic – I had a cherry scone and cream and it was absolutely delicious, whilst the husband opted for salmon and scrambled eggs and loved it so much he went back for more the next day. The pancakes, which were a breakfast special, were so beautifully presented and decadent, with strawberries and cream, whilst drinks were also delicious.

The staff are friendly and utterly professional, when we returned again the next day we were remembered, and even asked if we would like the same table again.

The Parks Art Deco Cafe is a treat for deco lovers and food lovers alike. Would highly recommend.
