Lupus Awareness Month
There are diseases that are very high profile. Diseases like breast cancer, and, more recently, Motor Neurone disease, have been highlighted by Internet campaigns like the ‘no make-up selfie’ and the Ice bucket challenge. But there are other diseases that many of us know nothing about, despite the fact that they blight thousands of lives all over the world. Lupus is just one of those diseases. Lupus is a disease of the immune system that affects one in 5,000 white women, one in every 1,000 women of Asian origin and one in 625 women who are of African Caribbean descent. A little bit of Christmas with Nākd Bars
One of the main difficulties when you are trying to eat healthily is the dangers of snacking. It is so easy to eat a healthy meal and do everything right, and then find yourself feeling peckish and snacking on something totally wrong, undoing all your good work. Sweets, crisps and biscuits are all temptation when you are trying to be good. And don’t even get me started on chocolate. But thankfully, a tasty alternative may be on hand. Take a walk to school this month
Up until quite recently, my morning mommy routine was a bit of a nightmare, one that left me feeling stressed out before the day had chance to begin. It began with the alarm going off, and me banging the button in order to snooze for five (or ten) minutes. We live almost 2 miles from our school, so the car is a must, but as I don’t drive my father-in-law comes to take us in the mornings. We always struggled…

The National Trust launches ‘Nature Misses you’
There are still three weeks left of the Summer holidays for most of us, and if now is the time when ideas to keep the kids occupied are starting to run dry, then it is the perfect opportunity to take a look at the ideas that the National Trust has for getting children outside and enjoying the fresh air, the environment and nature. The National Trust has, this summer, launched a new initiative called ‘Nature Misses you’. They have researched the activities that different generations partake in, for leisure and family time, and the research has shown, that with each passing generation, we are spending less time outdoors. The National…

A day of relaxation at the Amala Spa
The Amala Spa is an oasis of calm in the middle of the busy city of Birmingham. Situated at the Birmingham Hyatt Regency Hotel, the day spa offers six, state of the art treatment rooms, as well as a fitness centre, swimming pool and steam rooms. Last week I was given some respite from the hustle and bustle of the school holidays when I experienced some of the treatments that the spa has to offer. I can honestly say I left the Amala Spa feeling totally renewed and invigorated. The Spa itself is beautiful, on walking down the steps and entering, you feel like you are in another world –…
