The Oscars – My top 10 Dresses

So it’s all over, the 2013 Oscars was one of the most anticipated ceremonies in recent years, with some real vintage films and performances to savour. In terms of the dresses, I don’t personally think it was a vintage year, most stars looked great, but safe in their choices, and there were so many strapless dresses that I was overjoyed when the long-sleeved vision of Jennifer Hudson walked onto the red carpet. But there were still some beautiful looks to enjoy, and so I have chosen my favourite 10, that I will announce, X Factor style, in no particular order. Naomi Watts in Armani Prive Naomi Watts looked sublime in…

Best Dressed – Critics Choice Awards

Another day, another awards ceremony. This time it was the Critics Choice Awards. Amanda Seyfried, Anne Hathaway, Marion Cotillard and Jessica Chastain were just some of the Hollywood superstars who shoved on their finest dress and got those elbows flexed to fight it out in the acting (and fashion) stakes. As I’ve already mentioned, I get very excited about the awards season, as this is where we really get to see if all those wonderful dresses we admired so much on the catwalk actually convert into red carpet dressing. (The rule is that some do perfectly, whilst many others really need to go back to the drawing board.) Here are…

The best (and worst) looks from The People’s Choice Awards

A new year means the start of the award season, (cue much excitement from moi, who LOVES ‘Live from the Red Carpet’ more than life itself.) First up was The People’s Choice awards. A great turn out of stylish celebrities to peruse including Emma Watson, Lea Michele and Taylor Swift promised some interesting choices to discuss, and they disappoint, although some choices were definitely more successful than others. There are too many dresses to discuss them all in detail, so I am just going to show you a few that I thought were just gorgeous, and a few that I would’ve frankly passed on. Would love to know who your…

Doris Day – forgotten style icon?

One of the nicest things about taking a little time to chill over the Christmas period has been the opportunity to catch up on some television. I was delighted to see that one of my favourite channels, BBC 4, was dedicating some time to look at Hollywood Goddesses, the icons that still light up our screens today. Ava Gardner, Elizabeth Taylor, Marilyn Monroe and Clara Bow were the main focus, but I was also really excited to see a documentary about one of my favourite stars, Doris Day. I grew up loving Doris Day. My mom had a real love of her films, from ‘By the light of the Silvery…

Must watch TV – Sienna Miller as ‘The Girl’

‘The Girl’, if you were wondering, was Tippi Hedren, a beautiful blonde actress from the early 1960s whose career was launched, and then ruined, by the legendary film director Alfred Hitchcock. He gave her the lead role in his classic movie ‘The Birds’, a film where she showed a real talent for conveying the icy sensuality of the ice-cream blonde that Hitchcock was so impressed with, the stereotypical Hitchcock Blonde. She also had a stunning role as the beautiful kleptomaniac Marnie, opposite a young Sean Connery, again excelling in this difficult role. But Tippi’s career was stalled when she spurned the advances of the portly, strange director, she was tied…
