August Outfit Post

August is, without doubt, one of my favourite months of the year. I get to spend quality time with Joe, enjoy lazyish days (as I work all through the night I might add) and then spend some time with my family in Wales. And this year, Wales actually had sunshine, which was lovely, and quite possibly a miracle!

The wardrobe choices in August reflected the weather, and, as ever, featured wardrobe faves which highlight why buying classic pieces is always a good move. The black floral dress from F&F has been making regular appearances for the past couple of years, as have my trusty 70s style Clarks tan sandals. There are also newish pieces that I seem to wear and wear – particularly the Dorothy Perkins denim skirt and the new rose gold shoes.

I have found some great Charity Shop finds this month, including the red K shoes that were just £2, and the white shift dress I wore to Chi Kitchen, which cost £4 and will be teamed with black opaque tights and t-bar shoes come Winter. I also love the unusual M&S limited collection skirt that I found in one of the Birmingham City Centre charity shops – I love all the colours in it that mean I can mix and match it with so many things.

I’m still managing to wear Summer styles at the moment due to the mini heatwave,  but am guessing that, as the month draws on, I will once again be embracing layering and more cosy looks.

The Kardashian collection has arrived at Dorothy Perkins

Today’s the day when one of the most anticipated High Street collaborations ever arrives in stores. The Kardashian collection, designed by Kim, Khloe and Kourtney, is now available from selected Dorothy Perkins stores and online. I must admit that I am really excited about this collection. The Kardashian sisters are known for their deeply glamorous appearance, with Kim in particular feted as a modern-day goddess of beauty. But what is also interesting about these girls is that they encompass a whole range of body types.

Kim is, of course, petite in statue and curvy in body, with the ultimate derriere. Khloe is gorgeously curvy and 5ft 10 inches tall, meaning she has to combat issues of height as well as those curves. Finally, the love Kourtney is like a tiny doll of a girl, which brings its own problems, as many of my 5ft4 and under friends constantly remind me. So we have three beautiful women who have stunning figures that are not average height, size 10. Would this lead to a collection that would be friendly to lots of different body types?

Well, there is a lot of bodycon, curve enhancing dresses that might not appeal to everyone, but come in a fabulous range of colours and include gold and silver versions that should be really popular in the run up to the festive season. What I personally think works very well are the stunning range of floaty blouses that would look brilliant dressed down with skinny jeans, or vamped up with a pencil skirt. And the accessories are highly covetable. I can see those sequinned clutch and shoulder bags at every Christmas party this season.

Here are some of my key picks from the first collection.

Wallis – It’s all about the Jackets

Autumn is the time when we relinquish our bare arms and the jackets come out in force. The weather isn’t actually freezing yet, but we need something that can banish that definite chill that lingers in the air. We basically need a jacket.

Wallis has really come up trumps in the jacket department this season, with a range that takes in blazers, tuxedos and biker styles. But my favourite style this season is the waterfall jacket that has taken a step away from the block colour versions of past seasons, and has embraced pattern and print. I was asked to choose my favourite style, and had no hesitation in picking the ‘Animal Print Waterfall Jacket’ that is now amazingly in the sale for just £20.

I totally love this jacket – it is just so easy to wear, and practically versatile enough to wear anywhere. The sleeves look great rolled up to make this a more casual look, and the waterfall effect is very flattering if, like me, you have a large bust. The pattern is very subtle for animal print, not loud at all, and so will appeal to people who usually avoid the more overpowering leopard prints. I’ve already worn this with jeans and a flowing white blouse, but know it will look just as good as an evening cover up over a little black dress, or even with a black pencil skirt and polo neck for a great work outfit.

The colour is fabulous, it is a deep rust rather than brown and so looks fab with shades like yellow and teal, as well as black and brown. This is a great, wearable piece that will work hard in your wardrobe.

Wallis have some other fabulous jackets at the moment if the waterfall effect is not your style. Here are a few more favourites to add to your Autumn wardrobe.
