Doris Day – forgotten style icon?
One of the nicest things about taking a little time to chill over the Christmas period has been the opportunity to catch up on some television. I was delighted to see that one of my favourite channels, BBC 4, was dedicating some time to look at Hollywood Goddesses, the icons that still light up our screens today. Ava Gardner, Elizabeth Taylor, Marilyn Monroe and Clara Bow were the main focus, but I was also really excited to see a documentary about one of my favourite stars, Doris Day. I grew up loving Doris Day. My mom had a real love of her films, from ‘By the light of the Silvery…

Reviewed – Olivia Accessories Art Deco Bangle
One of the greatest things about being a blogger is that you sometimes get offered the opportunity to review an item from a site you may have been unfamiliar with. This is what happened to me when I was asked to review an item from Olivia Accessories – a fashion jewellery and accessories site. This site is simply choked full with beautiful items that would make the perfect gift for Christmas, the perfect accessory for your little black dress, or just a payday treat after a tough week at work. The piece I chose was the stunning Pierced Art Deco Crossover bangle. This was something that appealed to me as…

X Factor Fash Off Week 6
The latest edition of X Factor proved to be the battle of the boybands, with Union J proving the victor. On the fashion front, the honours were pretty much even again, with Tulisa the clear winner on Saturday night, and Nicole looking wonderful during the live results show. Saturday saw Tulisa go all Downton Abbey on us with a stunning Art Deco style beaded dress from Alice Temperley. This was a column dress that had previously been worn by Shirley Bassey, but it was a classically beautiful look that gave Tulisa an elegance that she rarely exhibits. She chose an interesting hairstyle with this dress that also had a Lady…

Downton Bows out – Now steal the flapper look
The current series of Downton Abbey came to an end last night. This series had been set in the decade known as the roaring 20s and had allowed flapper fashions to light up our Sunday evenings. The looser styles, drop waisted cuts and a mixture of both deep shades and nude peaches and creams had shown that the style of the 1920s can fit all moods and occasions. Maybe that is why there are so many 1920s style dresses available this Christmas. And whilst the fallacy is that this is a style only made for extremely boyish figures, the reality is somewhat different. I myself wore the beautiful Evans Gatsby…

Land Ahoy! Push PR’s seaside inspired Press day
Last week was the start of a mammoth round of Spring/Summer Press days. Yes, whilst the weather is turning decidedly nasty, fashion is looking towards Spring/Summer 2013 and the promise of sunny skies and brighter days. First up on my very extensive list was Push PR, who were clearly enjoying getting into that Summer holiday mode with their showroom resembling a vintage style seaside town. Life buoys festooned the room, as did saucy cutouts to pose for those seaside snaps, whilst fishing nets were the perfect way to display the gorgeous jewellery of Alice Menter and Eastern Mystic. There were so many fab brands on display. Nelly’s formidable shoe collection…
