Emma Case – Wedding photographs without the cheese
I love weddings, but, let’s be honest, wedding photographs can be really cheesy! You have the bride and groom, arms entwined as they drink from champagne flutes. Or the ones with the happy faces superimposed onto conjoined wedding rings, and don’t even get me started on the wistful bride staring out of a window, looking for her handsome groom. These pictures can often make even the most romantic soul gag. So we need to thank heaven for the wonderful work of photographer Emma Case. Emma is a Birmingham based photographer, who looks to the ghosts of weddings past for vintage inspiration. I was lucky enough to meet Emma ( and…

The Baseballs in Birmingham – Rock and Roll fashion.
A look back at The Baseballs first gig in Birmingham in 2010. This article should really be titled ‘The feel good event of the year’. The Baseballs played their first concert in Birmingham tonight, and Fashion Mommy was there to enjoy the ride. For those of you who’ve spent the last few months under a rock, The Baseballs are a German Rock and Roll band who have built up a huge following with their interpretations of modern pop songs in a rock and roll stylee. They have the personal style of James Dean, with the most impressive quiffs since the Leningrad Cowboys. They are style personified, with great tunes and…

Penhaligans Launch Juniper Sling in true 1920s style.
A look back at a launch from 2011. The last few weeks have been full of fabulous launches, and one of the most enjoyable was the launch of the gorgeous Juniper Sling at the Penhaligon’s Covent Garden store. This was a special bloggers event with a real ‘Bright Young things’ feel. Flappers, the Charleston, roaring twenties news-stories about the likes of Stephen Tennant and Brenda Dean Paul and a bar serving an arresting array of Gin Cocktails made this a launch party to remember. The launch was to celebrate the newest addition to the iconic Penhaligon’s fragrance family. ‘Juniper Sling’, as the name may suggest, has been inspired by London…

Kate. Marilyn And Elizabeth And The Allure Of Pearls.
10 years ago next month, Kate Winslet posed for a stunning photograph that appeared on the cover of V magazine. A shot of her beautiful face and a string of pearls was all that was needed to create the wonderful image. But the pictures also evoked the movie queens of days past, and speaks volumes about the eternal lure of pearls. I may be biased – pearls are my necklace of choice, my birthstone (for June), but whether it is an elegant gold and pearl necklace with a chain and a pendant, a simple string of pearls, or a vintage style choker, pearls evoke glamour, and elegance, and also a…

Zara Taylor Jewellery – unusual, quirky and wonderful!
At the recent CICI press day I was thrilled to meet the supremely talented Zara Taylor, the founder and creator of Zara Taylor London, a vintage inspired jewellery line that is attracting huge attention and a celebrity following. I was really impressed with Zara’s creations, which look and feel like beautiful lost treasures that you have uncovered in a long forgotten jewel box. Zara’s pieces include cameos, timepieces and long pendants that are created from both vintage and vintage-inspired materials. I love the telescope that actually works, and the adorable ‘a nice cuppa rosy lea’ pendant with its delicate china cup and pink rose. The vintage timepieces, wore on a…
