In a year of Royal Weddings, yesterday was the time for a rock and roll wedding with royalty in attendance. Pop queen Ellie Goulding married her longtime partner Caspar Jopling at York Minister yesterday with Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, and the Duchess of York amongst the guests.
Other guests included James Blunt, Katy Perrry and Orlando Bloom, Jimmy Carr, Sienna Miller and Tracy Emin, and, it has to be said, the wedding had the definite feel of a royal wedding, with crowds lining the streets outside to get a glimpse of the couple and their guests.
Ellie chose an unusual Chloe gown that has certainly divided opinions on social media. The dress had long sleeves, a high neckline and was demure and elegant. The style was very reminiscent of a 1970s wedding dress, it reminded me of the design Princess Anne had worn at her 1973 wedding to Mark Philips in that it has a slightly medieval look to it. I personally liked it and thought it was an unusual but lovely choice, although I have heard some refer to it as looking like a vintage nightie.
Another thing that was unusual and a definite break from wedding tradition was that Ellie wore white, and then chose white as the colour for her bridesmaids dresses too. Their gowns were actually very similar to that worn by Ellie which gave the wedding a lovely uniformity, although I’m not sure I’d want my bridesmaid’s dresses to be quite as close to my own style.
In terms of the guests, I love that Princess Beatrice chose a stunning Emerald dress from the Vampire’s Wife range, the designer collection from supermodel Susie Bick. She teamed it with a black headband, the Justine Bradley-Hill ‘Athena’ headband and I just think this was a gorgeous look that shows Beatrice loves fashion and is a true fashion person. Her sister Eugenie also looked lovely in a Peter Pilotto floral gown.
