Fashion Focus – Adding red to your wardrobe
Following on from yellow and blue, my latest colour focus is based on the hottest colour, one that is, quite literally, red hot. Yes, Red is having a bit of a moment, with a host of celebrities wearing the colour to a number of high profile events. From the gorgeous Kate Upton in a lighter shade of red that borders on coral, to Elle Fanning resembling a young Gwyneth Paltrow in a sizzling scarlett silk number, red is making an appearance in all its shades and glory.
Red is a bit like the bright version of black in that it is one of those colours that never really goes away. Obviously a favourite in Winter, and particularly at Christmas, red is also a lovely summer shade. Who can forget Kate Moss in her red polka dot sundress, or Princess Diana in her sleeveless red shift dresses? Red looks great with a deep tan, and is also a shade that suits most skintones and hair colours, making it a failsafe, and yet so effective, choice.
A red dress is a really sexy, vampish choice, and I personally think every wardrobe should have one. But don’t dismiss red as just being a choice for evening wear, ‘House of Cards’ actress Kate Mara shows how good a red peplum top can be when teamed with a pair of skinny jeans.
For Accessories? Gold is always a good choice, I love the gold box clutch bags that Kate and Elle have added to their little red dresses. If you are opting for a softer shade like Kate Upton, you can up the glamour stakes by adding a slick of red lippie.
Whatever you opt for, you are sure to look totally red hot with this look. (Sorry for the terrible pun, hope you’re not groaning too much.)
