Boden’s 1960s Winter – Love!
This season, it seems like Boden is taking us on a journey to the 1960s, British style. I can’t help but look at the new collection and be transferred to the time of Marianne Faithfull, Georgy Girl, Jean Shrimpton and Julie Christie. This is the 1960s of Kitchen Sink drama’s and gritty realism, tweeds and shift dresses, a time when Mary Quant ruled and every button was huge! Boden has taken a raft of those classic cuts, the simple shift dress, the collared tunic designed to be worn as a sexy mini, and those patent shoes with the just high enough heel to enable you to dance the night away.…

Art Deco styling from Next
A good friend once said to me that Art Nouveau was all about summer – pretty colours, swirls and florals, but that Art Deco was Winter – a stark palette of black, white, cream with a few bright primary shades thrown in. I would take the metaphor further and say if Nouveau was day, then Deco was most definitely night. And maybe that’s what makes Art Deco styling so perfect for glamorous festive evening wear. Rose Royce from White Stuff – quirky and wonderful
As a huge fan of White Stuff, I am always interested in what they will come up with next. After all, this is the brand that encourages you to wear a tea cosy on your head, so frankly, anything is possible. The latest collection in store is called Rose Royce, but it has nothing to do with ‘Car Wash’. This collection is all about the English Eccentric. Think the Mitford’s, the Queen with her headscarf and wellies at Sandringham, or the hunting and shooting set wearing their pearls and the family jewels over a beaten up Barbour. This is one of my favourite ever collections from White Stuff, full of…

‘Enchanted – The Show’ at The Bullring
I took my front row seat last Saturday to watch Enchanted and was blown away by a very grown up fairy tale. ‘Enchanted’ was the Bullring’s major contribution to this year’s Style Birmingham, and it was a truly stunning spectacle. A baroque fairytale filled with gothic glamour and acres of brocade, sparkle and lace, ‘Enchanted’ was a truly, well, enchanting show that showcased piece after beautiful piece from the major Bullring stores. And with the gorgeous Lydia Bright presenting, and some pretty amazing hair styles enhanced by a range of eye-catching lace wigs, this proved to be a show that will stay in the mind for a long time to…
