Spooky style from Topshop

It’s a fact – Halloween dressing up is no longer just for the kids. These days, Halloween is a hot date on the social calender, with parties being gothically, glamorous occasions and the perfect excuse for donning the deepest of red lips, the blackest of Kohl and the slinkiest of dresses.

I have never, as an adult, dressed up for Halloween. But all this is going to change this year. I’m going to a Halloween party for the first time in years, and have picked out a Morticia Adams style wig, a purple witches hat, and a gorgeous long black dress and boots for my witchy costume. For those who are still on the lookout for an outfit for Halloween, or those who always like their fashion to be from the ‘darkside’, Topshop have some great pieces that really evoke the fun spirit of the creepiest night of the year.

Topshop have a great ‘fright night’ pieces this year, from cobweb style tights, very cute cat print socks and animal print kitty ears. There are also the sexier fabrics, snakeskin style lace, 1990s negligee dresses in silk effect and a good smattering of luxurious velvet.

Take a look at some of my favourite pieces for the most frightening night of the year.

Cheryl Cole’s first day back at The X Factor

It was probably one of the worst kept secrets in showbiz, that a certain Ms Cheryl Cole (or is it Tweedy, or just Cheryl…not sure I can keep up with all the name changes.) would be making a welcome return to the X Factor for 2014. Nicole Scherzinger and Gary Barlow have both left the series, and with Cheryl and Simon Cowell returning, we have a judging panel that hark back to the glory days of the programme.

I for one am glad to see the Sassy Ms Cole back, I always loved her interaction with Simon, who clearly fancied the pants of her. I am now looking forward to seeing who else will be named as a judge after the departure of the mad as a box of frogs Mrs O, who was my favourite thing about the last series. And, of course, I’m looking forward to seeing what she wears.

Style-wise, Cheryl has always been a bit of an enigma. She has had incredible highs, like her appearance at the Cannes film festival in 2012, but also lows, like pretty much her entire US X Factor wardrobe. For her first appearance since being named as the newest X Factor judge, she totally nailed it in a beautiful lattice style, peplumed dress from Lela Rose, a dress that showed that the covered up look can be as sexy as it can be elegant. I loved the flash of coral on the Christian Louboutin heels, and her new, lighter hair colour. It was a polished, gorgeous look, one that shows that Cheryl is back, and that she means business!

Wallis show their take on the Little Black Dress

It is hard to believe there was ever a time that the ‘Little Black Dress’ wasn’t the chicest item in a lady’s wardrobe. But black dresses were once there solely required for mourning wear, not for every day use, and certainly not for evening wear. Thank goddess then, for Coco Chanel.

The Little black dress became the modern icon of style, worn by Audrey when she took ‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s’, By Princess Diana as her revenge dress, by Kate Moss in a myriad of unforgettable looks, and by every young girl aiming at ‘Sophistication’. And whether you wear a simple black shift as a no-nonsense work look, or full on evening glamour, you know you can’t go far wrong with a black frock.

Wallis has a fabulous range this season, with styles from shift dress to full length red-carpet looks. There are all length of sleeves, flattering side ruching, and embellishment perfect for the upcoming Christmas party season. I’ve picked my ten favourites, but there are many, many more that are just gorgeous.

Take a look and tell me what you think.
