Floral Embellished Skater Dress from Lovedrobe

There are some dresses that make you feel like a princess when you wear them. Really beautiful, romantic dresses with embellishment and beading, the sort of pretty floaty gowns that you can see a celebrity wearing for a red carpet event. The floral embellished Skater Dress from Lovedrobe is just one of those dresses. It would be a wonderful pick for a special event – a party, a prom or a wedding, but it is also very easy and comfortable to wear. To put it simply, I adore this dress.

This is a truly beautiful dress. The bodice is heavily embellished with decorative floral beading and sequins in gold and silver, this contrasts beautifully against the nude colour of the dress. The beading also extends to the sleeves, but because the skirt is plain it avoids looking like something from Dynasty – sometimes the worry with heavy beading, when the look you are aiming for is classy not cabaret.

The skirt is a beautifully floaty chiffon, but with a thicker underlayer to give the skirt a slight skater shape. There are also soft pleats coming from the waistband that again help to create an illusion of shape, rather than allowing the dress just to drop. The skirt is knee length on me, preferable to the shorter skater styles in my opinion. (The dress is 40inches in length).

The dress fastens with a zip up the back that leads to a slight V back detail. As the embellishment also continues around to the back of the dress I think you need to keep accessories and jewellery to an absolute minimum. I teamed it with rose gold shoes and although I would love to ditch the tights, the weather just wasn’t warm enough to do this.  I left off all jewellery, and would add a very plain clutch bag to finish this look.

I cannot rave about this dress enough, the style, shape and colour all worked perfectly for me, and I think it proves that skater styles are not just for the teenage market.

IGIGI by Yuliya Raquel Angie Dress

When it comes to my style, tea dresses reign supreme. There is something so timeless about the 1940s staple, utterly feminine, perfect for any occasion, and just so flattering on most shapes due to the knee length and usual use of sleeves. As a curvy lady, I think tea dresses flatter and fit in just the right places, and work well with a denim jacket and flat shoes for casual occasions, or with heels and a clutch bag for more formal affairs.

Curvety is a company that declares that it dresses ‘your curves with style’. It stocks brands like Robell, Kirsten Krog, Tia and Igigi by Yulia Raquel, and it is the last brand that I have been reviewing. Igigi was founded in 2000 in San Fransisco, and has been at the forefront of the plus size fashion revolution, producing beautiful quality clothing that is both stylish and elegant, and comes in sizes 12-32. It is, quite simply, a go to brand when you want a truly special outfit for an important occasion.

When I was approached by Curvety with a view to review something from their vast range, I totally fell in love with, you’ve guessed it, a teadress from the Igigi by Yulia Raquel range. The Angie dress in the rosebush print is an absolute beauty. It has 3/4 sleeves with adjustable ties, a crossover bust, a fully lined a-line style skirt and stretchy fabric which makes it comfortable to wear without being clingy.

The dress is totally retro 1940s and sits so prettily on the knee. The print is vibrant and would look great whatever time of the year you choose to wear it. It is a dress that would definitely suit a special occasion, but is also so comfortable you could wear it every day, dressed down in the way I mentioned earlier.

I wore this dress to the book launch at a casino, and teamed it with a similarly retro shoe, a red suede and patent Mary Jane. The v neckline also means you can add a necklace as it will sit perfectly in the v – I chose pearls, but I think both silver and gold would also be fine with the colour option.

I know this is the sort of dress that I will wear loads – practical, stylish and classic. This dress is quite limited in size options now, but Curvety have a great range of Igigi dresses so I would definitely recommend you take a look at the new-in section. There are also quite a lot of sales bargains at the moment – again, well worth a look.

Everyone needs a versatile dress in Summer

What would your definition of a versatile dress be? For me, it is something that I want to have in my wardrobe because I will get lots of wear out of it, for lots of different occasions. It is a failsafe dress, one that doesn’t really need a lot of thought – you can just thrown it on. And, of course, it is super flattering and comfortable, a dress I feel good wearing.  The ex White Stuff Mauve Mist printed summer dress from High Street Outlet is the latest versatile dress added to my wardrobe. It has already had three wears, all for different occasions, and I know it will emerge from my wardrobe time and time again before the Autumn comes.

The print of this dress is very eye-catching and super pretty, almost like something you would find on Wedgewood pottery, and the colour is a soft grey/blue which is very unusual for summer. The fabric is a silky feel viscose, one of the reasons why I think this dress suits a lot of different occasions, and is also fully lined, another great feature when you consider so many summer dresses are thin and see-thru. The dress has a gathered, elasticated waistband which gives the dress shape.  And, of course, as I already mentioned, this dress is really versatile.

Why? Well, as I mentioned, I’ve already worn this dress 3 times in less than a month. I’ve worn it with flat shoes and a cardigan on a rather breezy school run. I’ve worn it with a denim jacket and sandals for the airport and traveling. I’ve worn it on my hols for a day out sightseeing. For each occasion it was cool, comfortable and perfect.

I think this dress would also be a great addition to your summer workwear uniform if you added a thin blazer and kitten heels, so yet another way to wear the ever versatile dress. High Street Outlet currently has a great range of dresses that can suit all your summer needs (you can check out the current intake here, and remember new lines are being added every week, so bookmark the site.)
