The Debenhams Beauty Gala

Last week, Debenhams in the Bullring held a glorious beauty gala for the first time in many years. Bloggers, customers and beauty addicts were invited along for a night of demonstrations and pampering treats, along with food and drink, and the chance to win lots of beauty goodies, and a fabulous night was had by all.

Chloe volunteers for the Face Mapping

Two sessions that I really enjoyed were demonstrated by uber beauty brand Benefit. The first demonstration concerned an autumn makeover, and the products were distributed so you could try them for yourself. I was particularly impressed with the ‘Pore Fessional’ pro balm, which can be used to minimize the appearance of pores. I was instructed to use this on the gap between my thumb and finger, where there are a lot of fine lines to get an idea of how this works. It was incredible, the lines appeared noticeably fainter, and this has made me add this product to my beauty list.

A second product I also loved was Majorette. This is a gorgeous peachy pink cream that is a cream-to-powder booster blush. You can wear this alone, on cheeks and lips, or you can wear it under your favorite blush for an instant “pep-up.” It gives a lovely, subtle sheen, and a little goes a long way. Another must buy for the season that is notable for pinched cheeks!

We were also treated to a little look at some of the beautiful gift packages that Benefit have put together for Christmas 2014. Benefit then moved on to a session on face mapping with a view to the perfect sculptured eye brows. As someone who has never had my eye brows waxed or professionally plucked, I was surprised at how scientific and mathematical this is. Chloe (pictured above) was a superb model, but I’m still not convinced this is for me…

The second session that I enjoyed was from Elemis. I have already been to an in depth Elemis session at Debenhams in the late Summer, so this was revisiting some ground, but the addition of the massage bed added interest to this session, and it was good to hear how many bloggers had changed their skincare routine following previous advice from the Elemis team.

This was another fabulous event from Debenhams, made even more enjoyable with a selection of wines from Cafe Rouge. At the end of the evening, we were all presented with one of the best goodie bags I have ever seen, totally full of beauty and fragrance treats.

With some of Birmingham’s lovely blogging ladies…and those fab goodie bags!

With huge thanks once again to Kim Stephens for the invitation, and Debenhams for a fab evening.

A night of Beauty with Elemis and Debenhams

A special night of beauty demonstrations and the opportunity to try lots of products is not something to turn down, especially if it is being hosted by one of your favourite brands. This is what I experienced last Thursday when Debenhams Bullring organised a night of skincare fun with Elemis.

I must admit that I was already a huge fan of Elemis before the event, I love their Pro Collagen Marine Cream, the Cleansing balm, and all their bath products, particularly the Milk Bath. But learning how to use the products as part of a complete weekly routine was a brilliant opportunity, and getting chance to try new products at the same time was also a fab experience – a real try before you buy chance that we don’t often get.

DSCN8187The first thing we did on the evening (after a glass of wine and nibbles) was write down our current skin routine. I do cleanse, tone and moisturise daily, but often miss things like eye cream. I also use a face scrub/exfoliator weekly, but no longer use a deep cleansing mask – time constraints unfortunately. The programme that we were shown (and tried) was a weekly programme that involved all of these steps. By the end of it, my skin felt amazing.

We delved straight into a weekly skincare routine. It was rather hilarious, we all put on a headband and neckcloth that made the room resemble the cast of ‘Sister Act’ and caused lots of giggles. It was all very girly – there was a real atmosphere of Girls Night In that only lacked Chaka Khan ‘I’m Every Woman’ in the background with us all singing into hairbrushes!

First we looked at cleansing. I already use the Pro-Collagen Cleansing balm which I totally love, so I tried the Pro-Radiance Cream Cleanser. I must admit that I still prefer the Cleansing balm – this is a personal preference, it feels lighter on my skin than the cream cleanser which is a much deeper cleanse. However, the cream cleanser did leave my skin feeling very clean, and despite the thicker consistency, it was soaked up by the skin surprisingly quickly.

Next we moved onto toner. This seems to be a step that everyone feels is less important, but this couldn’t be further from the truth. Toner is needed every time water is used on the face, it rehydrates and nourishes the skin. I tried the Rehyrating Ginseng Toner, which not only smells amazing, but makes the skin feel alive and refreshed. I was interested in the tip to use cotton wool to apply the toner, I have often just sprayed it on and then left it.

We then looked at some of the things that can be added to a skincare routine each week, a facial scrub and a cleansing mask. I tried both of these items, particularly loving the Herbal Lavender Repair mask, which is great if you are suffering from blemishes, or if you have combination skin.

The final steps in the fun and illuminating evening were the one that most of us remember, and the one that most of us forget. Eye Cream is something that we all need to think about if we are trying to abate the signs of aging, but I must admit that I rarely bother with it now, even though it was once a step I followed religiously. The Absolute Eye Serum is a real hero product, and the one thing I will definitely be adding to my daily routine.

And, of course, we finished with moisturiser. This being Elemis, there was only really one choice, the award-winning, huge selling Pro Collagen Marine Cream. This is something I already use and dearly love, and I believe many other people in the room will now be converted.

I left with a fabulous goodie bag filled with Elemis Products and skin that felt super soft and revitalised. Elemis products are just fantastic, and currently Debenhams has a great offer where you get a free gift with two purchases from the Elemis range (one of which must be skincare.) With thanks to Kim Stephens, Elemis and Debenhams Birmingham for a fabulous night.

Debenhams Spring Beauty Event

On Saturday I went along to the lovely branch of Debenhams based at Intu Merry Hill for a very special beauty and pampering event. Taking my own mom along for the afternoon, we were treated to pampering, fragrance and insights into some of the best known beauty brands stocked at Debenhams. It was a whole lot of fun and a truly lovely experience.

We started with a session at one of my fave skincare brands, Elemis. I love Elemis, using lots of their products in my skincare regime, from the new cleansing balm, to the hero product Pro Collagen Marine Cream. Unfortunately, I had a skin break out on Saturday (damn hormones!). This had taken a lot of covering with make-up, and my skin was feeling really sore, so I was not able to partake in a mini facial. But my mom jumped at the opportunity, which left her skin feeling super soft and glowing.

The second session we attended was Lipology by Elizabeth Arden. As you can probably guess, this was a session dedicated to the care of the lips – an area often much neglected in our beauty regimes. We started with another hero product, the Eight Hour nourishing lip balm, a product I know and love, which leaves lips feeling really soft. We were also given some great beauty tips – including adding lip brushing to your beauty regime, using an old, clean mascara brush to gently brush dead skin off the lips – something I’ve never done before, but was really impressed with the results. Once the lips had been brushed and buffed, it was time to add some colour. I chose Coral Kiss lip gloss, which is a lovely, soft coral shade. This is one product I will definitely be adding to my make-up bag.

Love this product.

The final session we attended was for fragrance, showcasing the latest scents from Juicy Couture – Couture LaLa and Malibu. A fun quiz showed us which new Juicy fragrance was most suited to our personalities, to be honest my test suggested the fruity Malibu, but I prefered LaLa, which is similar to the original Juicy fragrance (which I love!). We then tried to guess the top notes through eating flavoured jellybeans – I was frankly useless, only guessing orange and watermelon. Finally we got chance to test some of the fragrances, and were given a bag full of samples and perfumes to enjoy at home.
