Phillip Treacy – Mad hatter or Millinery Genius?
If there was one person who faced criticism in the aftermath of the Royal Wedding, it was Philip Treacy. The Milliner to the stars created almost 40 hats and fascinators for the occasion, with some being better received than others. And none were ridiculed more than the creations worn by the Royal Princesses, Beatrice and Eugenie. Poor Beatrice’s hat has been compared to everything from an upturned toilet seat to a Telletubby, even gaining its own Facebook page, ‘Princess Beatrice’s ridiculous hat page. Beatrice is a big fan of Treacy, and has worn his creations in the past, often with the same ridicule, like when she wore the unusual butterfly…

Androgynous style- Do it like a dude.
I sat reading a book about Marlene Dietrich today. She was just the most stunning women imaginable, with legendary sex appeal. And this was never more apparent than when she dressing like a man. Marlene’s wardrobe, both in films (In Morocco she famously sported a tuxedo and top hat) and in real life veered towards mannish tailoring. One of music’s hottest new stars, Janelle Monae, acknowledges Dietrich as a style icon, and works that tuxedo look to its best advantage. Rihanna wore a stylised D&G Tuxedo to the Met Ball, whilst Leighton Meister was widely…

Marc Jacobs for Louis Vuitton-Kate walks again
It was fashion and fetish, Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell at the Louis Vuitton A/W 2011 show in Paris yesterday. Marc Jacobs had a lot to live up to after the amazing success of his two most recent collections, which had evoked the glamour of the 1950s and disco heyday 1970s respectively. This collection was altogether darker and seedier, less glamorous and more oppressive. And to my mind, even adding too of the most iconic supermodels of all time did nothing to lift the disappointment over what was a seriously depressing, if decadent, collection. The styling reminded me of the 1975 Charlotte Rampling film ‘The Night Porter’, with a dash…

Designer Vintage Bridal Show – Oh! To be a bride…Pt 2.
The most amazing feature of Highbury Hall is the gorgeous staircase. You can just imagine brides floating down it in a sea of silk and lace on their special day. I had these thoughts in my head as I walked up the stairs, pausing dead in my tracks to admire the most fabulous dress I had ever seen. This 1920s style gold sheath is the sort of dress that tempts married women into divorce in order to get married again and WEAR THAT DRESS! “It’s Jenny Packham” I was reliably informed. I thought this would be the perfect dress for Keely Hawes to wear as Lady Agnes when ‘Upstairs, Downstairs’…

Bryan Ferry at Selfridges – Swoon, Swoon!
Bryan Ferry is back! The most stylish man in modern music has made a triumphant return, playing to sell out crowds with his band Roxy Music, and on Tuesday he was in Selfridges, Birmingham as a guest at a special cocktail party hosted in his honour. This was attended by approximately one hundred of his loyal fans, who had purchased a special edition of his latest release ‘Olympia’ and were able to get it signed by the great man himself. Fashion-Mommy was also invited along to the event, held in the super stylish Selfridges Moet bar and gallery. The Champagne was certainly flowing, along with the excitement, with many fans…
