November Outfits Post #WIWT

November is always a busy month, because it is when the road to Christmas really begins. So this month has been filled with really lovely events, shows and parties which has been a great excuse to get into my second wardrobe. This is one that lives in my son’s room and contains my party wear, the clothes covered in sequins, sparkle and glitter. Because, if you can’t sparkle at this time of year, I’m really not sure when you can.

As ever, I have tried to link to pieces that are in shops now, or have featured alternatives in similar styles, cuts and colours. My second wardrobe is one that I dip into every year, so many of the pieces are season’s old, but prove that when you buy classics, you can wear them year in, year out, without ever really falling out of fashion. A case in point is my Gudrun Sjoden red velour dress that I first wore last year. I wore it for a trip to the theatre and had so many comments and lovely remarks on my Instagram feed. The green sequin skirt I wore for the grotto at House of Fraser was first worn on Christmas Day 2014, and made another appearance, although it is now too big so I have to wear a safety pin on the waist to keep it from falling down!

Now we are into December I am really giving that sparkle an airing, and will look forward to sharing the December #WIWT post in the New Year. But, for now, I would love to know what outfits you are wearing and loving as we head towards Christmas.

Friday Shopping Special – Monsoon and Accessorize

This Friday I’m bringing a little sunshine into the mix with the fabulous heritage collection from Monsoon. With the store celebrating its 40th birthday (in the year my husband does the same), Monsoon has decided to delve into their illustrious archives to bring us a little bit of seventies boho, global traveller style chic. This result is a gorgeous range of cotton and cheesecloth style separates and dresses that hark back to those hazy days of summer summed up so beautifully through the misty lens of ‘The Virgin Suicides’ (one of those movies that just charm and hypnotise in equal measures) and Kate Winslet’s wardrobe in Hideous Kinky, seventies maxi dresses with quilted detail – totally boho, totally lush.

So, if we finally get a summer this year, this is just what you will need in your wardrobe.

I can’t finish this post without giving a shout out to Accessorize, and their totally beautiful new season clutch bags, jewellery and accessories. Accessorize have always been a place I visit each season when I need a statement necklace, some Beyonce style chandelier earrrings, or a cute pair of flat shoes. It always delivers, and this season is no different. Check out my picks and see if you don’t agree.

Spring Florals from Monsoon, plus the pick of the sales

The nights are getting lighter, we’ve seen a few blue skies,  and , even though yesterday saw snow pretty much everywhere, Spring is around the corner, or at least it is according to some of our favourite stores. One of the best gauges of how close we are to spring is when the shops start to fill with pretty floral prints. And Monsoon have some of the prettiest around at the moment.

I must admit to being a fan of floral prints of all varieties. I love the bright garish flowers that suggest South Sea islands and tropical climes, the soft chintzy rose that are just so English, the lotus prints that are often juxtaposed against black to signify an Oriental influence. Monsoon is celebrating the floral print in all it’s glory and many different identities this season – there are frankly so many pieces to love.
