Choosing the right baby car seat – inspiration from Prince George

One of the most important things an expectant/new parent has to do is choose a car seat.  It is also one of the scariest. New parents aren’t allowed to take baby home unless the car seat has been inspected by the hospital, and it goes without saying that the safety of the new baby is paramount in the parent’s mind. Luckily, there are now really great options when it comes to choosing a car seat, with Prince William giving some inspiration.

No-one could forget that fabulous July day when Prince William and Duchess Kate emerged from St Mary’s Hospital, Paddington, with their tiny baby Prince. And what many people commented on was how easily Prince William was able to secure the car seat into the back seat. The car seat the Prince had opted for was a Britax car seat ,  the lightweight baby safe, and I remember letting out a squeal of delight as this was the same seat we had chosen for Joe when he was younger. Nothing like getting the royal seal of approval for your choice.

Britax have created a fabulous range of award winning car seats that are definitely worth a look when you are shopping for your baby. They have a range of colours and sizes, and also have adaptable seats that can cater for your baby as they continue to grow. They also design seats that use the isofix technology that offers the ultimate in child safety when travelling by car. Isofix car seats are the safest way to transport baby by car, the baby seat is secured into your back seat by a fixed connection that slips into the back of the seat, meaning no need for securing by seat belts. This means the seat moves less than regular car seats due to more rigidity, making them safer for baby in the terrible event of a crash. There are three different types of isofix fitting, meaning there should be something to suit every car type.

Isofixpageleft1We opted for an isofix car system and I can honestly say that we were impressed with the ease of use and the safety it offered. We purchased our system from Halfords who offered  free fitting and lots of advice.

As you can see Joe found the chair very comfortable…

New Royal Baby Photo released – and Kate is wearing Seraphine.

At the stroke of midnight on the 20th August, a couple of gorgeous, much anticipated photographs were released to the public. Featuring a lovely young couple and their beautiful baby son, this could be any normal, proud family photograph. Except that this wasn’t any normal couple, and this certainly wasn’t any baby.

The photograph in question of course, features the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge cradling the sleeping Prince George. Lupo the dog also has a starring role, and the celebrity photographer was non other than proud grandad Michael Middleton. It is a really lovely, natural family shot that shows how happy and proud the couple are and is sure to warm the hearts of everyone who sees it.

This is a short post, but I couldn’t finish without mentioning how glad I am to see Kate looking beautiful and elegant in what is actually a maternity dress from Seraphine. Not bowing to any pressure to fit into those skinny jeans or pencil thin dresses just yet, Kate looks as supremely stylish as ever and shows once again that she does things her way.

The dress is sure to be a sell out, with Seraphine already announcing  ‘Due to high popularity of this style, please be advised that orders will be dispatched week commencing 16th of September’. The Kate effect is certainly striking again!

William and Kate welcome baby George to the World

After all the speculation and tantalising slips of the tongue indicating that Baby Cambridge was going to be a girl, Kate and William have now welcomed a beautiful little Prince by the name of George Alexander Louis to the world. And it seems the world is already besotted with the gorgeous little bundle.

Kate looked amazing, choosing to wear a cornflower blue and white dotted crepe de chine dress by Jenny Packham. This was a great stylish choice, the empire line showing that Kate had no intention of hiding her remaining baby bump, and the colour obviously echoing William’s blue jeans and shirt. The trusty Pied A Terre wedges made another appearance, making this a perfect outfit for what was a pretty sticky, hot day.

The choice of a dotted dress made me think back to when Princess Diana left the same hospital, St Mary’s Paddington, with baby William in June 1982. Diana had worn a green dotted maternity dress as she left hospital, a look that was roundly criticised at the time, both for the maternity style, and for the pop socks that she teamed with it. Kate’s dress, whilst definitely more well received, is a nice nod to the woman sadly no longer there to enjoy her first grandchild.

Today the Royal couple have left London for Bucklebury , where they will be able to enjoy some much deserved family bonding time. Kate was glimpsed through the car window, wearing another great look, this time from maternity brand Seraphine. The short-sleeved knot front dress is just lovely, with pretty knot detail, a great length, and comfy stretchy fabric, perfect for a new mom to travel in.
