Celebrity style picks – featuring Rihanna, Kate Middleton and Alex Jones
Somebody told me this week that Fashion-Mommy is probably best known for the celebrity get the look posts, so as I am spending a rare Saturday night in, and I know that this won’t happen for at least another month, I would enjoy passing on a few more celebrity style spots for those who are intent on getting a little bit of celebrity sparkle. First up is Alex Jones. I really like Alex Jones on the one show. She always looks glamorous and has a great down to Earth charm that makes you forget that Christine Bleakley ever presented the show. This month she has been wearing some very eye-catching…

Boux Avenue opens for business in The Bullring
Boux Avenue, the fabulous lingerie and nightwear brand, launched a glorious new store in Birmingham’s Bullring yesterday, with its owner, Dragon’s Den Star Theo Paphitis, there to cut the ribbon. Before the official opening, Birmingham’s style community was there to cast a glimpse around the new store, which was given an overwhelming seal of approval. To put it quite simply, the store is a beautiful treasure trove of exquisite lingerie, swimwear and body products that is all housed in a boudoir style setting. Think vintage department stores where personal service is the key and you will get the general idea of Boux Avenue. The underwear appeals to all tastes, fabulous neon…

Getting set for Summer with TK Maxx
With temperatures in the UK set to eclipse those in Ibiza this week, now is definitely the time to be sorting out that Summer Wardrobe. And a key part of that has to be sunglasses. What fashionista would be seen without a pair of glamorous sunnies, whether it be day or night, a Red Carpet event or a photocall? This season, fab High Street outlet TK Maxx has an amazing range of designer sunglasses available. Thankfully these come without the enormous price tag often attached to these covetable accessories. They have hot designer ranges including Valentino, Marc Jacobs and lust-haves from the gorgeous Mr Tom Ford himself, with styles that…

Kate Middleton’s 1950s styling
The public engagements are coming in thick and fast for the Duchess of Cambridge right now. The end of last week saw two more appearances, with Kate visiting the Dulwich gallery, and then inspecting the Irish Guards on St Patrick’s Day. And I noticed that on these two occasions, Kate was styled in a way that evoked images of the New Look looking distinctly 1950s. Is Kate now taking her sartorial cues from Grace Kelly? At the Dulwich Gallery Kate wore another dress from Orla Kiely. This was a dark grey wool dress with pretty black applique flower detailing on the neckline. In terms of styling this was pure 50s, nipped…

Fashion Mommy loves…Barbara Hulanicki for George
One of the best High Street collaborations of recent times has been that between the legendary Biba founder Barbara Hulanicki and George at Asda. The collections have used elements of famous Biba prints and styles to create wonderfully modern and up-to-date pieces. And,of course, being from Asda, the price points are totally affordable. These are pieces that can add lustre to your wardrobe without breaking the bank. The new collection is another winner. Full of pretty prints like butterflies and bubbles, along with the trademark tribal designs, this is recognisably Hulanicki. One major plus point of this collection are the adorable skull printed wellies. These are just perfect for festival…
