Get the Duchess of Cambridge’s latest look at Boden

The Duchess of Cambridge has been spotted looking very slim and elegant, shopping on the Island of Anglesey.  And whilst the press have been focusing on the lack of any remaining baby bump, I must admit to being far more interested in Kate’s outfit, which I think is a great transitional fashion look, perfect for shopping trips and the school run.

Kate’s outfit is a masterclass in classic separates. A Ralph Lauren Breton top, teamed with a pair of black skinny jeans. Add the neutral shoes from Sebago and Kate looks smart yet casual. Many people look at Breton tops as a great spring trend, but they are equally good for those late Summer/early Autumn days when there is a distinct chill in the air. Teaming a Breton top with darker jeans also makes the outfit more Autumnal – leave the white denim and wide leg trousers for Spring looks.

Get the Look with Boden

You can get the Duchess Kate off-duty look with some key pieces from Boden.

The Hamptons Tee has become a Boden classic in recent years, and I particularly love the scoop neck detail, which is perfect for those with a larger bust.

The Skinny Urban trousers are super sleek, and would be a great alternative to those who are a little fed up of skinny jeans. These have a sexy, early 1960s styling to them (I’m thinking Elizabeth Taylor zipping around Rome on the back of a Vespa.). Also, these are pigment dyed to fade, so they will only look better the more you wear them.

Kate’s deck shoes are a summer staple, but to pull this outfit into your Autumn wardrobe, I would swap the Sebago’s for a Tasseled Loafer in dark tan. These are still a great comfy shoe for everyday wear, but also look extremely smart – you could easily imagine them worn with trousers and a blazer for a great workwear look.

Vintage Flashbacks – Celia Birtwell and Barbara Hulanicki

Sometimes it feels as if fashion time isn’t moving forwards, but is instead moving backwards. A case in point is that this last week has seen two new High Street collections launched by ladies who can only be described as legends of the 1960s and 1970s, Biba’s Barbara Hulanicki and Celia Birtwell.

Now both grande Dames of fashion, and particularly fashion heroines of anyone who adores print, both Barbara and Celia and their designs remain as relevant as ever.

Celia’s latest prints are emblazoning a fabulous new collection of dresses and separates for cool Japanese brand Uniqlo. Shirtwaister dresses, elegant, masculine cut shirts and cute, versatile long sleeved t-shirts are all included in this collection, perfect for the transitional period we will soon be moving into. In addition, the stole/Scarves that have proved to be popular sell outs from other collections for Uniqlo, including the Orla Kiely collection, also make an appearance here, in a range of kitsch, retro prints.

Here a are few of my faves from the Celia Birtwell collection.

Barbara Hulanicki is also treating her fans to something special with her latest collaboration with supermarket brand George at Asda. Yes, the signature retro prints are back, but the palette is a strict monochrome. And there are also a couple of pieces that evoke all the extravagance of Big Biba, the amazing Art Deco palace of fashion that lasted for such a short time, yet still suggests exotic and decadent beauty and style. The pieces I’m thinking of have chiffon capes and could’ve been created for Marianne Faithfull or Julie Driscoll, such are their power.

Folli Follie Bracelets – A fashion passion

Last Christmas I attended a special bloggers event at Selfridges in Birmingham. It was an amazing event which I truly enjoyed, and the night was enhanced even more when we were given a special Christmas goodie bag to take home. I literally let out a squeal of delight when I discovered an orange Folli Follie pouch within, and squealed some more when I opened it to find a beautiful signature bracelet in one of my favourite shades of blue. Christmas had certainly come early!

Since that night I have fallen deeper and deeper in love with Folli Follie, a brand which I think designs beautiful jewellery which also deliver the elements of fun and colour. Finding that my beloved bangle came in my current favourite shade of hot pink, and also in a monochrome style design in black and sparkling silver, were the start of this obsession.

But it’s not just the resin signature bangles that have me dancing with joy, for Folli Follie really is King (or more likely Queen) when it comes to designing something totally eye-catching for your wrist.  The ‘Greece is Bliss’ bracelets are great fun, coming in a range of zesty, bright colours, making them the perfect holiday accessory. I adore the ‘Colourful bracelet’, which has the look of a solitaire ring, but again has a colourful punch in shades of orange, pink and purple (amongst many other colours…Folli Follie is the Rainbow Brite of the jewel world.)
