Reviewed – Rosie Crochet top from Boux Avenue
I really enjoy a good shopping trip to The Bullring in Birmingham, and one of the places I most enjoy paying a visit to is Boux Avenue. Quite simply, Boux Avenue offers a lovely range of lingerie, sleep wear and beach wear, but also treats its customers to something a little bit more. The stores have boudoir styling, with a touch of retro elegance – underwear is kept in luxurious sets of drawers and there are gorgeous occasional tables and mirrors scattered throughout the stores. Tie in with this the attention to detail, your items are beautifully wrapped in pink floral paper, with scented petals placed in with your goods,…

Cannes – The festival of great Summer daytime looks
I have always been a little obsessed with the Cannes film festival. It epitomises sheer glamour and elegance in the most beautiful of settings. The roll call of the most beautiful, most talented, most famous and sometimes the most infamous have all walked that famous red carpet, publicising everything from films to L’Oreal beauty. I went to Cannes myself in 2008, when I was pregnant with Joe, and must admit I fell in love with the aura of glitz and glamour of the place. This year’s festival has been one of the most stylish and glamorous in recent memory, with Nicole Kidman, Naomi Watts, Blake Lively, Marion Cotillard, Cheryl Cole…

House of Fraser Press day
I’m a huge fan of so many of the House of Fraser brands. I totally adore the retro glamour of the Biba collection, the timeless elegance of Linea, and the cool style of Pied a Terre. So it is no surprise that the House of Fraser press day was one of the most eagerly anticipated in my calender this season. And even though it took place on one of the rainiest London days in recent memory, the fabulous fashion and accessories on display meant that even the weather couldn’t dampen my mood and enthusiasm for the feast of fashion on offer. For Autumn and Winter House of Fraser is reaching…

Reviewed – Catch 22 at the Birmingham Rep
First I have to make a confession. I have never read the Joseph Heller classic Catch 22. Nor have I seen the 1970 film version starring Art Garfunkel and Alan Arkin. But I know all too well what a Catch 22 situation is – one where you just can’t win, where you’re damned if you do, and damned if you don’t, and this awesome piece of theatre, currently playing at the Birmingham Rep, perfectly illustrates this most frustrating of situations with style, humour and pathos. The truly wonderful Philip Ardetti is Yossarian, a war weary bombardier in World War 2. He dreams of going home, but fears it will never…

Children demonstrate life difficulties after brain injuries through Art
Last week saw a very poignant and special art exhibition take place in the Town Hall Hotel, Bethnal Green in London. The exhibition was of artwork produced by a group of artists who happened to be children and teenagers with an acquired brain injury, and the paintings were an illustration of the difficulties they face in their everyday life. The art project was organised by Child Brain Injury Trust for Action for Brain Injury Week, and was supported by law firm Bolt Burdon Kemp. The idea behind it was to illustrate that children and teenagers with acquired brain injuries experience difficulties in doing every day tasks that mean things we…
