Ideas for your man for Valentine’s Day
In the general tradition of years literally flying by, we are now less than a month away from Valentine’s Day. And whether your opinion is that this is the most wonderful, romantic day of the year, or that it is just a commercialised excuse for the likes of Hallmark to make lots of money from tacky cards, less than impressive teddy bears and overpriced roses, the chances are you will still get sucked in and buy something for the love of your life. I guess we’re all old romantics at heart. With that firmly in mind, I am of the opinion that if you are going to buy a present,…

Celeb Trend Report – Vaping
It might be hard for young people living in our enlightened times to believe, but, once upon a time, smoking was the height of cool. The favourite film and music stars, from Clark Gable in the 1930s, to Mick Jagger in the 1960s, were often photographed with a cigarette in their hands, whilst popular films had iconic scenes were cigarettes were actually integral to the plot. Stylish Television – Father Brown
Working from home can often mean you develop some guilty pleasures when it comes to your television viewing habits. My current guilty pleasure is Father Brown, starring the wonderful Mark Williams as GK Chesterton’s crime solving vicar. The current series is the fifth for the unlikely sleuth, who has solved a whole host of crimes with the help of his house keeper Mrs McCarthy and his friends Lady Felicia and her niece Bunty. It is a gentle, funny and totally watchable series that I watch whilst eating lunch, all the time trying to solve the crime too. Father Brown is set in the 1950s, and the lure of the beautiful…

Dashboard Advice for New Drivers
So you’ve just got your driving license and have thrown away those ‘L’ plates with glee. The next step is to get your first car and to get yourself out on the open road, enjoying that sense of freedom that can only come from getting your own set of wheels. All goes well, until suddenly you have a flashing light on your dashboard and ask that immortal question ‘what the hell does that mean?’ Is it a minor issue or a major problem? Do I need to get to a garage straight away, or is it just telling me it’s due for a service? Seasoned drivers can still sometimes panic…

New Year New You – Start with some classic films.
‘ January is such a dark, drab and depressing month. Money is often in short supply after the excess of Christmas, days are short, nights are dark, and sometimes, going out in the evening is something best avoided. In short, January is the perfect time to discover some classic films, and movie musicals offer the perfect ‘pick me up’ way to avoid those Winter Blues. I love a good movie musical, the sort of film that always has a happy ending, is full of singalong moments, and has characters that you are willing to succeed and find their pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. I have…
