Art Deco Design – Leamington Spa Railway Station
At a first glance, if you ignore the modern cars that adorn its facade, then Leamington Spa train station could be a building that is part of the setting for Poirot, such is the beauty and style of its 1939 design. Leamington Spa station is a grade 2 listed building that is in the Art Deco style and is situated in the Old Town part of Leamington, it is truly breathtaking for lovers of this period of architecture. The station is the second to stand on the site, rebuilt between 1937-39 by the Chief Architect to the Great Western Railway, Percy Emerson Culverhouse. 1990’s Icon : Anna in This Life
I had plenty of icons in the 1990’s. There was Carrie Bradshaw, whose wardrobe I would’ve frankly killed for (the shoes alone). There was Jennifer Aniston as Rachel in Friends, who seemed to never have a bad hair day, there was Julia Roberts, Courtney Love and Sandra Bullock, all of whom had their own brand of awesomeness. And then there was Anna in This Life, played by Daniela Nardini, who really was one on her own. This Life was, for a time, unmissable television, and Anna was, for me, the sarky star of the show. The story of young lawyers sharing a house in London, and their messed up, mixed…

The History Boys At The Wolverhampton Grand
Alan Bennett’s highly acclaimed and much loved play ‘The History Boys’ is the latest in house production from the Wolverhampton Grand Theatre, opening earlier this week. The story of a group of upper sixth lads who are sitting the entrance exam for Oxbridge, and the teachers who work with them, inspire them, and maybe sometimes cross a line with them, is one of the most celebrated plays of the 21st century, and this production from the Grand shows how entertaining, thought provoking and powerful modern theatre can be. The history boys in question attend a grammar school in Sheffield, and are all aiming to get into one of the Oxbridge…

Stylish Television – Agatha Christie’s The Pale Horse
On Sunday night the first episode of The Pale Horse was shown on the BBC. This is the latest Agatha Christie adaptation, and stars Rufus Sewell and Kaya Scodelario. It has been described as one of Agatha Christie’s lesser known works, one written in 1961, and as with all Christie adaptations, it is seriously stylish and pays perfect attention to period detail. But it did have me puzzled. The reason for my puzzlement? Well, despite this being a lesser known Christie story, and one which I haven’t actually read (am just making my way through them, having just finished The Murder of Roger Ackroyd), I have seen an adaptation of…
